Daily Inspiration: Meet Aaron Stearns

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Stearns.

Hi Aaron, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. Was homeschooled my whole life until I went to college at Arkansas State University for Civil Engineering. I absolutely hated it haha so I switched to Graphic Design not really knowing what it was about except I knew I randomly enjoyed making t-shirt designs in high school.

Entering that program opened up a whole world for me and quickly fell in love with it. Graphic Design has so many different avenues and I loved how you could be both an artist and a problem solver.

Through the years I grew in my career. I worked as a freelancer for a while, was an art director at a fast growing e-commerce platform, and eventually went on staff at my church as a designer/art director. Each opportunity allowed me to wear several hats and look at projects as wholistic campaigns.

During that time my best friend from college introduced me to a guy here in Nashville that headed up marketing at Capitol CMG. Long story short, I ended up taking a job here as their creative director and been grinding at it ever since!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d be lying if I said it’s been smooth sailing. My list of struggles probably wouldn’t be much different than any other small town creative coming into a big pond, but I do feel really thankful to be where I am now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Right now I’m the VP of creative at CCMG where I oversee creative direction for our artists and I love it. I also manage a small team and really enjoy the team building aspect.

Being a “Creative Director” can mean so many different things, but there is truly something special about bringing a holistic vision to life by building a world for something or someone to live in.

I also think of myself as a graphic artist haha. I love typography, texture manipulation, screen printing, building visual systems, collaboration, etc. My heart will always gravitate towards graphic design and getting my hands in the weeds.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Thanks for reading!
