Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberta Morton.
Hi Roberta, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started as a little girl always wanting to have long hair. I am the only child so I used my imagination a lot. I would take a long sleeve T-Shirt and wear it on my head pretending that is was my hair. The sleeves were my ponytails and the body of the shirt was my hair out flowing in the wind (so I imagined). Most of the time when I would visit my cousin, I would usually do her hair. My goal was to make her hair nice and neat. So I knew I loved grooming and hair growth. It wasn’t until I was let go from a private insurance job, well into my late 20’s, that I said to myself, “let’s give cosmetology a try”. I thought that since I always love grooming hair and I always wanted long hair, why not go learn about hair.
So my journey began in Cosmetology School (New Creations Academy of Hair Design) January of 2009 and becoming a fully licensed Cosmetologist in February 2010. Since becoming fully licensed in 2010, I have elevated to having a Senior Cosmetology license and managing my business. In 2017, a new learning curve transpired. I started experiencing early signs of hair thinning in the crown of my head. I asked myself “this can’t be, what am I doing wrong?” So I visited a Trichologist (a specialist who focuses on hair and scalp issues). This is when I gained the knowledge of petroleum based products clogging up the pores on the scalp. I took this information and developed the first product on my hair care line which was called Thick & Whipped Moisturizing Butter that emulated petroleum by protecting the hair strand but with natural ingredients. With more product research, I was able to create a full hair care line named Mane Control Hair Care. My products are designed to seal hair cuticles for the ultimate moisture retention while also stimulating the scalp.
My journey continues to grow through my failures and my wins, but the biggest win is the learning curve of it all!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, this road was not smooth. My cosmetology career started right during the recession. So on top of not having a clientele, I had the obstacle of trying to build one in the recession era. After several years of consistency, my clientele grew. However, I wish I have developed the business side a little better. Therefore, I would advise anyone starting your business to study under a mentor while growing in your industry, that way you can have guidance and knowledge to minimize your failures.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Having the support of my husband, Aaron Morton, my two sons (Delondre and Roland) and my immediate family gives much needed stability during the growth and transition process of this business. I keep motivational podcast and spiritual influences in my daily life to stay focused and mentally strong along the way.
