Hidden Gems: Meet Joe Doctora of Dr. Joe Doctora and Associates/ Oral Surgeons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Doctora.

Hi Joe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I attended medical school in the Caribbean and did my residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Meharry Medical College here in Nashville. I fell in love with Meharry and the city and ended up starting my practice here. During my training, I was indoctrinated in the philosophy of serving the unprivileged and to this day I continue that mission. Our practice is open to both ends of the spectrum in terms of wealth or lack there of.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Residency was obviously challenging. There were nights when I was in the emergency room working up mandible fractures, and repairing facial lacerations back to back to back. And, on no sleep, I would go to the clinic and work a full day usually until six or 7 PM. During the years of dental school, internship and residency your personal life, at least for me, was paused. My social life was pretty nonexistent, OMFS was my life. The process of surgical training has gotten a little less grueling since I went through, however I’m glad I went through it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Dr. Joe Doctora and Associates/ Oral Surgeons. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) practice. OMS is a dental specialty focused on surgery of the head and neck region. Our practice consists primarily of wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement, management of oral infections and full arch dental rehab rehabilitation.

Funny, what we are most known for is my name. Dr.Joe Doctora. Having been here for over 25 years it’s very recognizable. But seriously we are most proud of our longevity serving the Rutherford, Williamson, Maury and surrounding counties. We’re also proud to say that we have close to 1000 Google reviews dating back 10 years with an average rating of 4.9 stars.

The message to our future patients is to consider the fact that we have been around for 20+ years. Both my associate, Dr Newton and I have decades of experience. We make it a priority to provide exceptional service to our patients, referrals, and communities. Her office manager Sondra has also been with us for over 20 years. We have a very stable and experienced team.

We are in our Smyrna location Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM

And in our Spring Hill location, Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 AM to 4 PM
