Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Polychronis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started gymnastics in a “mommy & me” class and singing followed at age four. I grew up in both the church and the gym attending church every Sunday and gymnastics practice 5 days a week up through high school until I became a top ranked Junior Olympic national gymnast in the USA. I had time for little else at that point so I was unable to pursue music. I started coaching high level elite gymnastics after my own career was done and found myself missing music so I dove into songwriting, became a worship leader and started recording in Boston. I write songs for organizations, non-profits and international pop artists from Italy and Poland.
I became a very successful coach and used that to get a coaching job in Nashville. I decided to make the move and through a series of events also entered the “Nashville Rising Song” contest which I placed 2nd and got the attention of a publisher. This publisher took me under her wing where I learned how to better craft country songs and soon after began writing and song plugging to all the A-list country singers.
I was fired from 3 gymnastics facilities for my program being “too hard” so I figured God was trying to tell me something and I went to work as a server while focusing all my efforts on honing my craft in songwriting.
One night my roommate dragged me out to a bar for a writers round. When I arrived there was a singer that night who know led me off my chair because he was so incredibly gifted AND he was singing about Jesus…in a bar.
From there I got to know him and after a month or so, we decided I was his manager and I took him under MY wing now and began to try and help him figure out who he was as a man artist. Country or Christian. After working with him for a year, I knew it was time to walk him into labels…but Christian labels I didn’t have connections to, as that’s where his career was going.
Fast forward a year and the publisher who I was working with helped connect me to a gentleman that then helped us take meetings at all the christian labels in town. He became the artists co-manager with me and together we got him signed to Sony Provident.
The next four years with him, we saw so much fruit. His first single “WHO I AM” became a #1 Billboard hit. I also was a writer on that song so it’s a very special moment for me not only as a manager but a writer as well. My artist received a Dove Award Nomination for “New Artist of the Year”, a KLove Nomination for “Breakout Single of the Year”, and he made his Ryman debut opening for Sidewalk Prophets as their special guest. He went on after me to making his Opry Debut and even sang with Jo Dee Mesinna at CMA Fest at Bridgestone Arena.
I now own a successful management company called 3 Strands Management with multiple artists signed and independent. 3 Strands is named after a verse in the Bible: Ecclesiastes 4:12. Keeping God at the center of the artist/manager relationship is THE most important thing for me and my business. If we are each following what God wants, then we can’t go wrong!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha! Anything but! Management has turned into development and therefore I am often hired to develop artists while simultaneously managing their careers. The strange part about that is at the end of the day… they are the boss of their music company, So while I’m trying to guide them using my expertise and experience of things I’ve learned, they can also say “no” to anything. It’s a very strange dichotomy if I’m honest.
Learning that sometimes God simply removes you from situations or jobs when you are meant to be somewhere else is a lesson I’ve learned over the years as well. Instead of looking at it as “getting fired” from those gymnastics jobs, I realized that the music I was unable to pursue previously because of my gymnastics career, He allowed me to step into today. He gave me an entirely different career in music and songwriting because He knew that was always a dream of mine I never got to pursue earlier.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 3 Strands Management?
Hopefully people who see my “brand” notice Jesus. It’s all about Him. I work with artists who have testimonies they want to share from stage that will connect and relate to people in desperate need of hope & love. That sort of love that can only be found in God.
What sets me apart is my tagline “Ministry Minded Management”. It can’t all be about the talent. Each artists needs to stand for something. If their voice was taken from then, what would they do then? I look for people who want to use their gift not only to spread the love of Jesus but who also want to step into a ministry WITH it.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
