Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin And Brittany Morrison.
Hi Justin and Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It started as a personal health journey in 2009, when Justin’s grandfather was undergoing open heart surgery. Justin was weighing in at 260 and realized if he didn’t lose weight, he’d be next on the operating table. He started following Dan McDonald (@theliferegenerator) on YouTube, promoting him to make green juices and began participating in bicycle marathons. He lost a total of 85 pounds over a two year period. In 2012, when Brittany moved back home to TN, she and Justin reconnected. Her eldest son had issues with eczema. Thanks to diet changes (eliminating meats, dairy, and focusing more on plants) Brittany lost 30 pounds and her son’s eczema cleared. Justin and Brittany worked as advocates with the NORML (National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws) group and met with state legislators on current bills. When hemp was finally passed in 2013, they signed on as “farmers” under the Research & Development phase where they purchased the largest sum of hemp seeds, 400lbs to be exact! These seeds were used to make hemp milk, which they gave to Brittany’s daughter who struggled to keep down baby formulas. In 2016, the bill was amended to allow for the sale of hemp goods within the state. Because they’d seen and tasted the benefits of hemp milk from their daughter and themselves, they immediately started vending in farmers markets across the state and doing weekly drop offs in Tullahoma, Murfreesboro and Nashville. By then end of the 2017 market season, they were able to secure a brick and mortar location for their juicing and hemp product business. They officially opened for business January 24, 2018. Since then, they’ve catered the Bonnaroo work crews, vended a variety of music events, private catered for Pretty Lights, had a booth at the Nashville Farmers Market on Rosa Parks Blvd, provided libations at ACME Bar on Lower Broad for the Southern Hemp Expo, and have continued providing fresh juices, smoothies, bowls, canna products and have helped dozens along their health journey!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Keeping up with current legislation has presented its challenges as the laws are constantly changing, or at least trying to. Also, neither of us went to school for business or marketing- there’s no degrees behind our names, so we’ve learned everything in the moment.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jugheadz Juice?
We are a Juice and Smoothie Bar, but not any juice and smoothie bar! We offer a variety of herbal medicines for whole body health and wellness, including Maca, Ashwagandha, Kava, Kratom, and Hemp. We believe in the power of fresh, raw and real! We’re excited to have been part of people’s sobriety and recovery processes, to have helped others in regulating reproductive health to be able to conceive, weight loss journeys, and even dropping prescription medications due to improved health!! We strive for quality in everything we do.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There’s so many people to thank! Justin’s grandparents believed in us probably more than anyone, as they fronted the capital investment to get us up and running. A wide number of friends have helped us by being among the first to order from us, working with us at events and markets, and spreading the word throughout our community about our business (Stephen, Marcus, Dugan, Corey, Matt, Laura, Nikki, Rachel, Maggie and Ashley to name a few). Our early partners, Lee and Harold of Tennessee Homegrown, who gave us our sea legs so to speak. MaryBeth, of Juicy’s in McMinnville, has always been a big supporter, mentor and friend. Jacque Barsotti of Suite Treatments and Rebecca French of the Manchester Conference Center- both of whom connected us to Bonnaroo in ways we could’ve only dreamed of on our own. Curtis of Tennessee Hemp Consultants, for not only keeping us busy but also for pushing us to better and believing in us every step of the way! We love and greatly appreciate each and every one of our customers as they’ve all made an impact on us and left an impression on our hearts to keep going!
