Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Dorsett.
Hi Tiara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Tiara Dorsett.
Born and raised in Nashville, TN, my journey with makeup began unexpectedly when I relocated to San Diego, CA. At first, it wasn’t something I ever saw myself doing—but once I discovered how makeup could be a creative outlet and a powerful tool for self-expression, I was all in.
San Diego exposed me to a whole new world of beauty, glamour, and versatility—things I hadn’t fully experienced back home in Nashville. The inspiration was endless, and it pushed me to dive deeper into the industry. I went on to graduate from makeup school there, where I trained in everything from editorial and beauty to special effects (FX) and bridal makeup.
Eventually, I made my way back to Nashville to continue my journey. I started doing makeup from home and slowly built a strong, steady clientele. One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to bring the knowledge and experience I gained in California back to my hometown.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with celebrities, on magazine shoots, weddings, photo shoots—you name it. If it involves makeup, I’ve probably done it! What drives me is helping women feel confident and empowered through transformation. I’ve always wanted to break down the intimidating side of makeup and show people how approachable and fun it can really be.
As my kids have grown, I’ve shifted my focus toward education—teaching beauty basics to those who want to learn but don’t know where to start. Being that go-to person for guidance is deeply fulfilling, and I truly love what I do.
Fun fact: My favorite kind of makeup is special effects. I might be girly, but I’ve got a real love for horror!
I’m committed to paving the way for the next generation of artists—whether they’re girls or guys—because while this field can be challenging, it’s an incredible way to express your creativity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been ups and downs throughout my makeup career. Some seasons are packed with clients, while others are much slower—and that can mess with your mindset if you’re not careful. In this industry, it’s important to have a strong sense of self because it’s easy to start second-guessing your work.
With so many talented makeup artists out there, it can feel competitive at times. But I’ve learned to stay grounded and focus on what makes me unique—both as a person and as an artist. I truly believe that what’s meant for me will always find its way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a makeup artist with a specialty in beauty makeup, though I’m trained across all areas of the craft. I’ve built a reputation for my professionalism, personality, sense of humor, and the quality of my work.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come—watching myself grow from a girl who once lacked confidence into a woman who fully owns her power has been an incredible journey. That growth has shown up not just in my personal life, but in my artistry as well.
What truly sets me apart is my versatility. I’m not limited in what I can do—whatever a client needs, I have the skill and creativity to bring it to life. But beyond the makeup itself, I take pride in being more than just an artist to my clients. Whether it’s offering a listening ear or just bringing good energy to the space, I always aim to create an experience that goes beyond the brush.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Taking risks in makeup artistry isn’t always easy—but it’s necessary. I’ve had to push myself out of my comfort zone more times than I can count, whether that meant trying new techniques, booking projects I wasn’t 100% sure about, or even just showing up as my full self in spaces that felt intimidating.
But every risk taught me something. It’s how I grew—not just as an artist, but as a person
