From Corporate Careers to Community Impact:
The Story of 5th & Barber

In a world where many were forced to pause and reflect, Jessica and I embarked on a bold new venture that would not only redefine our careers but also invigorate our community. Our journey from corporate professionals to business owners is a testament to adaptability, vision, and the power of seizing opportunities.

A New Chapter Begins
Jessica’s transition from corporate life began in 2015 when she entered the real estate industry. As we delved deeper into real estate investing shortly after, we discovered a newfound passion for entrepreneurship. The freedom and excitement of running our own businesses were invigorating, and we quickly recognized the potential to make a meaningful impact.

Embracing Change Amidst Uncertainty
The pandemic of 2020 brought unprecedented challenges but also revealed new possibilities. While many businesses struggled, we saw an opportunity to create something unique and beneficial for our community. In the midst of uncertainty, we founded 5th & Barber, driven by a desire to contribute positively during a difficult time.

Creating Jobs and Revitalizing the Community
5th & Barber was born out of a commitment to support our community. We aimed to create jobs and provide a vibrant gathering place when many others were closing their doors. Our vision was not just to start a business but to foster a sense of connection and continuity in the local area.

A New Home in Grassland
Originally located elsewhere, 5th & Barber has since found a new home in the Grassland community, within the Battlewood Shopping Center. This move has allowed us to better serve our growing clientele and integrate even more deeply into the community we cherish.

Looking Forward
As we continue to evolve, our focus remains on delivering exceptional service and being a cornerstone of the Grassland community. We are excited about the future and committed to further enriching the local area with our unique offerings.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, yes, it has gone well. At our original location in Downton Franklin, the shop flooded in Spring of 2021. That was a critical point because we had only been in business for 1 year and still coming off the impacts of the pandemic. Luckily, we have great friends who jumped in to help and we had the shop renovated and open within 6 days.

Our biggest challenge is barber retention and recruitment.
