Meet Ashleigh Menzies of Nashville Nanny Connection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Menzies.

Hi Ashleigh, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started nannying part-time in college, not fully realizing at the time that it would become such a central part of my life and career. After college, I spent time as a preschool teacher, which gave me a deeper understanding of early childhood development and a lot of patience! Eventually, I transitioned into full-time nannying and found that I really loved the one-on-one connection it allowed me to build with families and children. My role as a nanny isn’t just to provide childcare- I’m an educator, a strategist, and valued team member. The past two decades have taught me more than I could have imagined, taken me on incredible adventures, and introduced me to some of the sweetest kiddos.

Throughout my career, I’ve learned so much. Not just about children and their families, but also about the importance of community in a field that can often feel isolating. That knowledge is what inspired me to start Nashville Nanny Connection. I wanted to create a space where nannies could come together for support, growth, and genuine connection. It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey so far.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many other nannies, I learned a lot through experience, sometimes the hard way. Nannying doesn’t come with a handbook, and figuring things out often felt like trial by fire. In the early days, I definitely encountered situations where I was taken advantage of by families, which unfortunately is something many nannies can relate to. But overall, my journey has been a positive one. Once I found my footing, I really grew into the work and found so much meaning in it.

Starting Nashville Nanny Connection has also been a smooth and deeply rewarding experience. I had some initial nerves about launching something new- putting yourself out there always comes with a little fear of “what if no one shows up?” But from the beginning, the response from the nanny community has been overwhelmingly positive. People were eager for connection, ready to support one another, and excited about the idea of growing together. It’s been incredible to see the community take shape, whether it’s at a playdate, a professional development workshop, or just through everyday conversations between nannies who have connected at events. Watching something that started as an idea turn into a space that truly supports and uplifts others has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey so far.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nashville Nanny Connection. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Nashville Nanny Connection is a community built to support and uplift local nannies. My mission is to create a space where caregivers can connect, grow, and feel seen, both personally and professionally. We offer a range of events, from casual playdates to educational workshops, all designed to meet the unique needs of those in our field.

What makes us different is that we’re not an agency or a job board—we’re a true community. I believe that when nannies have access to support, connection, and resources, it doesn’t just benefit them, it strengthens the families they work with and the childcare industry as a whole.

What I’m most proud of is the sense of belonging we’re building. It’s been amazing to see nannies show up for each other, make new friendships, and grow more confident in their work.

How do you define success?
As a nanny, I define success by the relationships I build and the long-term impact I have on the families I work with. Helping raise kind, happy kids and supporting parents so they feel seen and confident —those are the moments that stick with me. It’s not always about big milestones; sometimes success looks like creating a calm morning routine or helping a child navigate big emotions with confidence. Those little wins add up in powerful ways.

As a community leader, success means creating a space where nannies feel supported, valued, and empowered in their work. When someone tells me they made a new friend at an event, learned something that helped them advocate for themselves, or just felt less alone in this unique line of work—that’s the heart of what I’m trying to build. My hope is that Nashville Nanny Connection not only helps individual caregivers thrive but also contributes to a stronger, more respected childcare community as a whole.
