Check Out Tennessee Ghostbusters’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tennessee Ghostbusters.

Hi Tennessee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our group started in 2010 when 3 people dressed up as Ghostbusters met at a pop culture convention and hit it off. Drawing inspiration from other costuming groups like the Star Wars 501st Legion and the Western KY Ghostbusters, they decided to start a Ghostbusters group based out of Nashville. Over the ensuing 15 years, we have met and collected more folks who love the Ghostbusters fandom and costuming and today we have nearly 70 members.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
You know, overall, it has been pretty smooth. Anytime you have a group of people together, especially for years like some of us have been, there will be some drama and personalities are going to rub someone the wrong way sometimes, but we’ve been able to stay successful by keeping and spreading a spirit of fun and community. After all, we’re putting on costumes and acting silly for laughs.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a local costuming group that creates costumes, props, and vehicles themed around the Ghostbusters movies, cartoons, comic books, toys, and other media. For some of these, we strive for movie accuracy and for others we put our own spin on it. Imagine if the Ghostbusters were real and had a local franchise in Nashville.

Instead of busting ghosts, we like to dress up and get together to attend conventions and participate in community and charity events. Some of our recent outings have been the Clarksville C.A.R.E.S Walk & Expo, Adventure Science Center Halloweekend, and various holiday parades

We often work with Dreams and Wishes of Tennessee – a non-profit wish granting organization that grants wishes to individuals between the ages of 5-21 who have relapsed from cancer.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for us means that everyone is having fun, we’re putting smiles on faces in the community, and we’re supporting good causes.
