Hidden Gems: Meet Jason And Skylar Ferris of Purpose Live

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason And Skylar Ferris.

Hi Jason and Skylar, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
How Purpose Live Started

This year marks ten years since I first started doing this work professionally—but really, the heart of it goes back almost twenty. As a teenager, I was hooked on live performance. I vividly remember watching back a video of a show I played with my band and feeling totally shook. It was the first time I truly saw the gap between what we feel on stage and what the audience actually experiences. That moment flipped a switch. I started studying shows—not to critique, but out of a deep curiosity about what makes live music truly impactful. Before I ever coached anyone else, the work had already started working on me.

Funny enough, Skylar was my first “client”—though she didn’t know it at the time. We’d just started dating, and she was (very politely) skeptical about what I was doing. She was already a seasoned performer herself, with albums, festivals, church stages—even the iconic Red Rocks stage—under her belt. But she’ll tell you now she wishes she could go back and re-do every show with the insight she has today. That season was pivotal for both of us. Now, she’s completely sold out to this mission. She lives it out on and off the stage—doing everything with purpose. Her journey and transformation have become a huge part of what gives Purpose Live its heartbeat.

But this work was never just about us. From the beginning, we saw a deeper need. So many artists were stepping onto stages with big hearts, big songs, and big dreams—but no real guidance on how to bring it all together in a way that connects. They were carrying the weight of their message alone, unsure how to translate what was inside into something the audience could feel.

So we created Purpose Live to walk alongside them—to help singers, musicians, and worship teams craft intentional shows, rehearse with meaning, shape their setlists, advance their tours, and step into each moment with confidence, clarity, and purpose.

Now, we get to do this work together. And every time we see an artist light up on stage and connect with their audience in a new way, we’re reminded: when you show up with purpose, it changes everything.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road?
Not even close. But we’ve learned that the bumps are often what make the journey meaningful.

After we got the name “Purpose Live,” we thought things would start falling into place. And in many ways, they did—but not without first being taught why the name mattered.

When you’re building something that doesn’t fit neatly into a category—like Purpose Live, which blends performance coaching with heart-level transformation—it’s easy to feel misunderstood. If you’ve ever tried to explain your work, your calling, or even your art—and had someone stare back at you blankly—you know the feeling. For us, it was realizing we weren’t just offering tips or technique. We were offering transformation. And transformation rarely fits into a bullet point list.

We’ve been where many of our clients are now—trying to turn a calling into something sustainable. Trying to build from scratch while staying true to the heart of it. And yes, there were seasons when it felt like nothing was working. When we questioned everything.

Even in our personal dynamic, building this as a married couple has had its own beautiful, messy learning curve. We’ve had to figure out how to communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and play to each other’s strengths. But in doing so, we uncovered something we now offer to others: clarity in your calling on stage, confidence in your identity, and alignment in how you show up.

We live in a culture that pushes fast results, quick wins, and constant hustle. But what about purpose? What about the artist who once played for the love of it, and now feels stuck in survival mode—doing what they have to do, while the spark slowly fades?

That’s who we’re here for. The artist, the worship leader, the musician who knows they’re meant for something more—but can’t always see the way forward.

In our own learning, we’ve been surrounded by mentors, clients, and supporters who’ve believed in us and reminded us: the hard seasons don’t mean you’re off track—they just shape the depth of your offering.

Looking back, we’re deeply grateful for every bump in the road. They’ve kept us humble, creative, and anchored in why we do what we do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What is Purpose Live all about?

Purpose Live is a company built to help artists, worship teams, and creatives craft unforgettable live performances—ones that connect deeply with the audience, flow seamlessly, and leave a lasting impact.

We specialize in transforming how artists approach their live show. Not just the rehearsal and the setlist—but the way the show feels. The way it tells a story. The way it makes an audience lean in and then leaves them impacted by the message, not just entertained by the music.

We work with artists who want more than just to make it through the set—they want to lead the room with confidence. Artists who want to stop guessing and start showing up with clarity and purpose.

Some of the ways we support artists include:

1-on-1 live performance coaching (remote or in person)
Custom song arrangements and rehearsals
Tour prep support: input lists, stage plots, and show advancing
Remote show reviews with detailed, actionable feedback
Worship team consultations and workshops
Books and guides for building headliner-quality shows

What makes Purpose Live different is the way we bridge the technical and the intangible. Sure, we’ll help smooth out transitions, tighten up your set, and sharpen your delivery—but more than that, we help you step fully into your role. So what you bring to the stage feels true to you, and powerful for the people listening.

We’re most proud of the trust we’ve built. Purpose Live has become a place where artists can grow—not just in skill, but in confidence and connection. Our brand isn’t about being flashy. It’s about showing up with excellence, stewarding your message well, and building a live show that reflects your heart.

And honestly, the best part? We get to walk with artists long-term. Through album cycles, evolving seasons, and the highs and lows in between. Watching their live show grow and come alive again and again—that’s what keeps us doing what we do.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes us happy?

Honestly, we feel the most joy when we see people come fully alive in what they were created to do. There’s nothing like watching an artist step into their identity with confidence—owning their voice, their story, and their stage—not just for the applause, but because they know why they’re doing it.

It’s those moments that get us. When someone says, “I’ve never felt more confident—or had more fun—onstage,” or when a worship leader shares, “The set connected, but more than that—it created space for the Holy Spirit to speak.” That’s when we know the work is doing what it was meant to do.

We’re especially moved by long-term growth. Watching an artist we’ve walked with for years still carry the same intentionality, even as they evolve—that’s the kind of fruit we care about. It means the work went deeper than a quick fix. It took root.

And honestly? Seeing the community that’s forming around this work brings us so much joy. From artists and worship leaders to booking agencies, labels, managers, and creatives behind the scenes—we’re surrounded by people who share the same heart. People who believe live music can be meaningful again. Who care about impact more than image. That kind of alignment is rare. And it’s something we treasure.

To top it off, getting to build this together—as a couple, as creatives, as people who care deeply about meaning and music—is something we don’t take for granted. It’s not just the wins on stage that make us happy. It’s the purpose behind it all, and the privilege of doing work that actually matters.
