Conversations with Miriam Benjamin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Benjamin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For sure!

Hi, I’m Miriam Benjamin, and I want to heal the world through music.

I started out professionally singing at the age of 15…but music has been part of my soul since I was born.

I have been singing for as long as I can remember, and at 6 years old, the violin was my first instrument. I have also been writing songs for as long as I can remember… and music saved my life.

My inspirations are a mix of Owl City, Taylor Swift, John Williams, Elton John, Whitney Houston, Jonsi…and so many more.

I remember the first time I watched Hannah Montana when I was little, I got this feeling of fire and explosions inside me, telling me that THAT was what I was meant to do! I thought this was a universal feeling when watching someone perform(turns out it’s not)…my gut had been telling me for a long time what gave me life, it just took a little while for me to hear her.

I started out singing at military bases, then became a worship leader and then was drawn to Nashville in 2019. And without even having visited-I knew it was the next step. I took the year to prepare for the move and even when Covid happened, I was like “hell yeah I’m still going”, so me and my boyfriend packed up and moved to Nashville!

It has been five years now…wow! I was told by a publisher in 2020 that this is a 5-10 year town-and he was so right.
The first year I spent performing, and released my very first single and music video, and I was so excited. The next 3 years I spent writing and locking in and getting back into the film world a bit. I was also dealing with some health issues at this time. I really did get to lock in though and I am so glad that I took that time.

This year, I am coming full swing!
In May, “Lila Rose”,(a song inspired by a women and meant to inspire and empower all women) will be released and an EP set to follow towards the end of summer… and that’s just the beginning!

I have really found my voice and have grown so much in these past five years…it’s funny because each year it feels like I find my voice again for the very first time. I am so thankful.

Music continues to heal.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have faced many challenges…We all have our struggles. One of the hardest things is remembering not to compare myself to other artists-thats a huge mental challenge. Finances were the biggest hurdle and this year I am so thankful to finally be able to support my music production and career more than ever before! Sleep is always a struggle too, and that may sound silly but my best ideas come late at night and you better believe I am staying up to write it out! It’s hard to find a “work-life” balance…you are constantly reassessing, asking yourself if you are doing enough to reach your goals, and then you have to remember to breathe…to live! And to let go…

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Digital Marketing Specialist by day, and an Alchemist by night!

I do consider making music to be a form of Alchemy…I love it so much.
And hmm… I would say that I specialize in hearing the layers individually and all at once. When I am creating a song, I can hear every instrument that should be there, every little weird sound that makes up the finished masterpiece-I can hear it from the beginning.
I specialize in creating and in creative problem solving-magic!

I am most proud of how I am continuing to push through and evolve and am SO proud of the projects coming up this year and for the others coming next…my best work is always ahead of me, and I just can’t wait for everyone to hear it!

What sets me apart I think, is my adaptability and ability to relate to so many different people. I am only 30 and feel like I have lived so many different lives.
I am thankful for those things.
My music is diverse in sound, and yes you can tell I wrote it, but each song will surprise you just a little.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Good question!

I think there is a whole group of people that know me as a marketing specialist and another that know me as a singer/artist!
I will share some fun facts that have nothing to do with either-I am a 2nd year birder, a voice actress, a middle child of eight kids, I graduated high school at 15, and I am going to change the world.
