Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Heid.
Hi Rebecca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started knitting at age eight when my grandmother introduced me, and I have done the normal fiber arts, knitting, cross-stitch, and some simple braiding throughout my life. However, I didn’t become deeply interested in fiber arts until I joined the Chattanooga Fiber Arts Guild in 2019, where the incredibly talented artists around me instantly inspired me. I have learned so much and grown through the guild over the past six years, and my fellow CFA Guild members’ creativity continues to light fires in me today, and I find myself wanting to create and share that joy with others. I have always loved teaching, especially helping children use their hands to craft something beautiful and meaningful. There’s nothing quite like watching a youth light up when they realize what they can make!
I currently love working on many fiber arts, including Kumihimo, Dorset Buttons, Huck Weaving, Drop Spindle, Needle Felting, Tatting, Reverse Applique, and so much more! However, my true undying love has become, and will always be, for Bobbin Lace! I am still growing in my skills with bobbin lace, but I am starting to teach beginner classes to get people to see that bobbin lace is far from an unachievable fiber art form.
So, today, I am the Jack of all trades who mastered none, but I do find it more interesting than mastering just one. 🙂
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I started my business this year, and it hasn’t been without its challenges. Like most new entrepreneurs, I face the ups and downs of figuring out marketing, building a following, and balancing all the moving pieces that come with launching something from the ground up. Add to that the beautiful chaos of being a mom; some days it feels like I’m juggling flaming yarn balls! But even in the busiest moments, I keep returning to why I started: to share my love of fiber arts and help others discover the joy and confidence that comes from making something with their own two hands.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets me apart is the heart I put into everything I do. I’m not just teaching fiber arts—I’m building connection, confidence, and creativity in others, especially in children. I love taking traditional skills and making them feel fun, approachable, and exciting, even for people just starting.
Community has always been at the core of my journey. This isn’t just a business—it’s personal and significant. I bring a mix of experience and genuine passion to my teaching, and I think people can feel that.
While building a business and raising a family simultaneously can be messy and overwhelming, it’s also incredibly rewarding. I want to show others that it’s possible to follow your passion, start something new, and keep love, creativity, and care at the center of it all.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
In the next five years, my goal as a small business owner is to grow a creative, sustainable fiber arts teaching business that sparks joy, builds community, and helps people of all ages fall in love with making things by hand. I want to expand my class offerings, build a strong online presence (hello, TikTok, YouTube, and beyond!), partner with local schools and organizations, and maybe launch my own kits or tools line. Most of all, I want to keep sharing the magic of fiber arts in a way that’s fun, welcoming, and a little bit whimsical—because creating should always come with a smile.
