Life & Work with Samantha Kunz of Wedgewood Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Kunz.

Hi Samantha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Chicago but grew up in Seattle, where I went to high school. I’ve always been a traveler, and I’ve always had an entrepreneurial streak—selling things, starting little projects, finding ways to make something out of nothing.

I shot my first wedding at 15. I was quiet, awkward, not super confident with people yet—but I loved documenting things. Real moments. I didn’t know it then, but I was already drawn to storytelling.

Later, I took that same love for storytelling into a totally different world—door-to-door sales. I did it for four years, and it completely changed me. I learned the art of talking to anyone. I learned how to network, how to build trust quickly, how to carry a conversation in random front yards and living rooms. You can experience a lot just by showing up alone and choosing to connect.

Eventually, I realized I missed creating—so I started helping business owners in the D2D space with content. At first it was small stuff. Then it grew into branding, storytelling, and strategy. Helping people not just sell, but show up.

That’s how Free Street was born. It’s my agency, and we’ve worked with everyone from artists to roofing companies to wellness brands. It’s a small crew I collaborate with when projects call for it, and we care way more about intention than fluff. I’m not here to just “make content.” I’m here to help people feel seen—and build something that actually lasts.

Now I live in Nashville, blending strategy and creativity, and helping people bring their stories to life in a way that feels real. Every part of my story—from the camera to the cold calls—taught me something I use every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been a lot of figuring it out as I go.. especially because I started young and kind of carved my own path. In sales, I faced constant rejection. Every day felt like a mental game, and there were so many moments I wanted to quit. But I stuck with it, and that taught me grit.

Then when I transitioned into creative work, I hit a different kind of challenge, learning how to charge what I was worth, getting clients to trust my vision, managing burnout, wearing a hundred hats at once. Especially as someone who never really fit in a traditional “career box,” it’s been a lot of self-belief and trial-and-error.

There were seasons where I was overworked, underpaid, and honestly unsure if I was even doing it right. But every setback forced me to get clearer. On what I want. Who I am. What I stand for. I wouldn’t trade the hard parts because they’ve shaped the way I show up for myself and for the people I work with.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run Free Street, a creative agency that blends content creation, branding, and storytelling—mostly for founders, artists, and businesses that are growing fast and want to actually connect with their audience. We handle everything from campaign direction to social media to photography and video production. I’m the one behind the strategy and the visuals, and I bring in collaborators when needed depending on the project.

I think what sets me apart is that I’ve lived on both sides—sales and creative. So I don’t just make things that look good, I make things that work. I understand how to move people. I know how to speak to the client and the customer. And I don’t just “create content” I help people build a brand that feels like them.

I’m most proud of the way I’ve done it all from the ground up. No blueprint. Just learning through experience, taking risks, and showing up again and again. I’ve worked with musicians, med spas, solar companies, wine brands, real estate teams, salons.. you name it. But the throughline is always the same: real people with real stories. I help them bring that to life.

What I’m probably best known for is making people feel seen, and making content that feels honest, creative, and clear. There’s a lot of noise out there. I’m not here to add to it. I’m here to help people cut through it.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
You don’t have to have it all figured out to start. Most of the best things in my life have come from saying yes before I felt ready.

Whether it was picking up a camera at 15, knocking doors in a city I didn’t know, or building a business from scratch, I’ve learned that clarity comes from action. God really does meet you where you’re at. I’ve seen Him show up in the craziest ways—especially in the moments I felt most unsure or unqualified.

If there’s one thing I’d tell anyone reading this, it’s that your story matters. You don’t have to wait until it’s perfect to share it. And if you ever need help bringing it to life—I’m your girl. Let’s make something that’s raw, creative, and impactful. 😚
