Life & Work with Amber Woodruff of Nashville / West end

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Woodruff.

Amber, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been in the childcare field for over 10 years now. Being an Early Childhood Teacher, Preschool Assistant Director, and Curriculum Coordinator. My experience in childcare ranges from ages six weeks to five years old.

I began my full-time nanny journey in 2017 after working in the classroom setting for several years. While I loved working with children, I had reached a point where I felt professionally fulfilled in that environment and was ready for a new challenge—one that still allowed me to nurture and support young children.

At the time, I was already babysitting on weekends, and the idea of stepping into nannying full time began to take shape. I’ll admit, I was hesitant and a little anxious about making such a big leap. But one phrase I’ve always lived by is, ‘Do it scared.’ Even though I was nervous, I knew deep down it was time to follow this calling.

Starting my nanny brand, Little Giggles, and committing to this path has truly been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s opened doors to incredible opportunities, given me a sense of freedom and purpose, and connected me with a supportive and inspiring nanny community that I’m proud to be part of.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey from the classroom to full-time nannying has been incredibly smooth and rewarding. The hardest part about leaving teaching was saying goodbye to the strong connections I’d built with my students. But the shift to working more closely with one family at a time brought a sense of relief and renewed purpose. In fact, it was a classroom parent who first encouraged me to consider the pivot—and I’m so glad I listened. Nannying offers a more intimate setting, allowing me to focus deeply on the unique needs of each family I serve.

This year marks the 8th anniversary of Little Giggles, and while the path has been steady, my next challenge is expansion. I’ve ventured into children’s books and branded merchandise, but I’m dreaming even bigger—considering options like caregiver training courses, a nanny agency, or even launching my own indoor playground.

The idea of an indoor play space especially excites me. It feels like a natural next step for the brand—a place where care, community, and creativity come together. Who knows? Maybe by 2028, Little Giggles will have its very own doors to open.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Over the years, I’ve found myself naturally gravitating toward supporting first-time parents. Many of the families I work with are just beginning their parenting journey—often with one young child and not quite ready for preschool. Some are looking for support that complements early education, while others simply want guidance navigating the new world of childcare.

With my background, I’ve become a trusted resource in easing that transition. I consider myself a bridge—helping families feel confident and supported as they entrust someone else with their little one. It’s completely natural to feel nervous about handing your child over to a caregiver, especially in those early months, but I truly believe that education and development matter from day one.

I feel incredibly grateful to have worked with such thoughtful, wonderful families—and to play a small role in helping both children and parents thrive.

One of the most fulfilling milestones in my journey has been writing and publishing my own children’s books. Storytelling has always been a passion of mine, and expanding the Little Giggles brand into children’s literature felt like a natural next step. I already had a beloved mascot, Giggles, and our brand slogan, ‘Giggle Given,’ which helped inspire the heart of the stories.

The idea for a series came as I began to weave in themes from real-life experiences with the children I’ve cared for—especially around love, connection, and emotional development. I decided to explore the five love languages in a way that’s accessible and fun for young readers.

What sets me apart is the intentional way I blend early childhood education with personalized family support. I don’t just provide care—I help first-time parents build confidence, create learning-rich routines, and feel truly seen in their parenting journey. My background in the classroom, my commitment to child development even at the newborn stage, and the heart behind my Little Giggles brand—through books, community, and connection—make this more than a job. It’s a calling.

I bring creativity, professional insight, and genuine love into every part of my work—from writing children’s books inspired by real-life caregiving moments, to supporting families with warmth, empathy, and education-driven care.

Our second book is set to launch in summer 2025, just in time to celebrate eight wonderful years as a career nanny. I’m truly excited for what’s to come!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Some of my favorite childhood memories are with my grandparents—I was practically attached at the hip. Afternoons, weekends, holidays… their home was truly my second home. I learned how to bake by watching my grandmother in the kitchen, and thanks to my grandfather, I have an unexpected love for model cars and classic wrestling.

They poured so much love into me, and I joke that they’re the reason I’m ‘spoiled’—because hearing the word ‘no’ was pretty rare. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
