Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Mirenda.
Hi Tia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I come from a long line of entrepreneurs and I always knew that I wanted to own my own business. I have been in the restaurant industry for 22 years this year. 10 years ago I started a food truck called “A Little Italian” I have an italian background, my great grandparents came to New York in the early 1900s. I knew that the food truck wasn’t sustainable for me in the long run, its such hard work being mobile, and my goal was always to have a brick and mortar by my 3rd year in the food truck.
When I first moved to Nashville in 2008 I worked at Twin Kegs for about 2 years. I had not been in there since I left, but one day I was felt like I had to stop by. I found out the bar was for sale and I contacted the owner. 6 months later I owned the bar.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I absolutely love what I do and since I have been in this industry for so long I feel it has been easier for me to deal with the challenges. Covid was definitely a big one, we were barely 2.5 years in. I laid off the entire staff because I couldn’t afford to pay them and they were able to get unemployment. I ran the bar alone until 2021 I believe it was when I was able to start bringing staff back. They were all able to come back.
A few years ago I was on a plane to Colorado when the main water line to the bar burst in the parking lot. There was nothing I could personally do, so I finished out my vacation, but while I was at a remote mountain cabin the bar was closed and the plumbers were tearing up the parking lot and replacing the line. I got back the night they finished and we opened back up the next day.
There’s always something. The AC and the Walk in Cooler went out on the same day a month or so ago, you just do your best and move along.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rosie’s Twin Kegs?
Rosie’s Twin Kegs was originally named Twin Kegs in the 70’s, but it had been around for a while before that. Know as Twin Gables, and then as Rich’s Keg. It has always been a neighborhood bar, attracting neighbors and locals as the regular customer base. It has been known for burgers and Karaoke for a long time, and over the years we have added some great outdoor patio spaces, live music, food specials and more. Known as Twin Kegs, TK, RTK, or Rosie’s the bar has a very special feel to it, when the door chimes everyone turns to see which one of their friends walked in. Asking each other about their day/week, buying each other a drink, making plans for the weekend. I love that myself and the staff have worked so hard to keep a friendly bar, a safe space, and a good time. I love watching people make friends in the bar. I think the most important part is that we are a neighborhood bar and it seems very evident that everyone, staff and customers both, cares so much about it and eachother. We also have the best wings and home made corndogs on thompson lane. We hand dip, local beer batter, and fry to order an all beef hot dog or a veggie dog giving you a superior corn dog experience.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We are going to be opening up for lunch again in the near future so watch out for that, and we are working on some collaborations with a few other local businesses. Plenty of fun stuff coming up this year !
