Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Mills.
Hi Caleb, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Alabama, Caleb found his love for music at just 8 years old. Inspired by his granddaddy, Billy Ray McBroom—who played bass with legends like Ernest Ashworth, Charlie Rich, and Diamond Rio—Caleb grew up surrounded by the rich musical heritage of Muscle Shoals, the “hit recording capital of the world.” This upbringing left its mark, giving Caleb’s music a distinctive “Southern Soul Stamp” that’s all his own.
Since 2020, Caleb has been traveling between Hazel Green, Alabama, and Nashville, Tennessee, pouring his heart into songwriting, performing, and recording. In February 2024, he celebrated the release of his debut album, S-U-R-V-I-V-E, and has been on the road ever since, playing shows that bring his music to life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been super smooth, I-65 North is still full of potholes regardless of how often they work on it. Seriously though, it hasn’t been easy, but I do know I wouldn’t be able to be doing anything else. The music business is hard , but that’s why not everyone is willing to try. It’s highs and lows just like life, but it’s the only way I’d want it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m proud that I’m able to call this my job now. It’s taken a whole lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to where I’m at now. I’ve seen progress every year for the last 5. I’m excited to keep the trend going though, I’ve still got a long way to go. I’m super proud of my debut record “S-U-R-V-I-V-E”, I’m even more excited about the current record I’m working on. I just released a new single on May 16th called “Everything To Me” that I’d say is what I’m most proud of, I think it’s a special song.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Not to take playing music for granted. I really struggled a while back with the fact that I’d play a show and have 700 people there one night ,and the next only have 5. I had to learn quick that on those nights where there’s only 5 people you still have to give it everything you’ve got on that stage. The audience and the crowd really feed off of the artist, at a live show. Whether I’m playing a 45 minute opening slot for a major act or sitting on a stool for 4 hours playing covers, I try to give it my all now.
