Today we’d like to introduce you to Percy Townes.
Hi Percy , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Indianola/Charleston MS until I graduated from Charleston High School in 1992. I pursued to further my education by attending the University of Mississippi/Ole Miss where I graduated in 1996 with a degree in Business Administration. I eventually relocated to Memphis TN in 1998 where I was employed with Clear Channel Radio currently known as Iheartmedia. In 2001, the NBA Memphis Grizzlies arrived to Memphis TN where I was hired as part of The NBA Memphis Grizzlies Entertainment Dunk Team for 8 years! I have always had a passion to serve in the Communities so ended up partnering with a couple Foundations where we coordinated numerous events that impacted and made differences in many aspects of the City of Memphis. Fast forward to 2006, I ended up taking a job at the #1 Radio station in the country WWPR Power 105.1 in New York City where I resided for nearly 3 years. I also worked as a Financial Analyst for the company First Funds Financial during my time duration in the Big Apple! After relocating back to Memphis mid 2009 and rejoining stations K97, V1O1, WDIA, and all of the Iheartmedia stations I also continued my service in several Communities that spanned over 15 years. After 2020 and the Covid Pandemic, I developed a desire for the Film industry in which I’ve worked with 4 Films to date “The Phenomenon”. “Ariel Phenomenon” “Moment of Contact” & the recent released film titled “The Program”! The Program is currently in negotiations for Movie Theatrical Showings!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel when you’re trying to achieve greatness obstacles are part of the journey. I think the biggest obstacle is financing your ventures in order to grow them. The saying “You have to spend money to make money” is very accurate. This is how you build anything you’re aiming to achieve especially when it comes to business and any form of business. Capital is a major key to expand any business but having a product or an idea is the first step and creating a plan to assist in the lengthy progression. What I have learned that nothing is built overnight! It’s a foundation and a process one must take to get to the next level! Documenting & Evaluating your progress is extremely important it allows you to access the stages of your growth! This is how I’ve been working for several years writing down my progress and setting up my next steps!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve worked in the Entertainment/Sports world for close to 15 years of my life. Growing up I’ve always found myself in Choirs or involved in some aspects of Sports. It was quite fitting to have worked at a Radio Station & the NBA for some years in my life. I’m mostly proud of my philanthropist efforts of my life and always willing to help the next person or people. I’m deeply involved in our Youth and that won’t ever change.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think because I have a heart for people, I’ve had more good luck than bad luck. Life will test any human successful or not because it’s part of the Human experience. When you realize everyday won’t be a Sunny day because there are days major storms arise but you just get through those stormy days knowing the Sun will rise again!
