Life & Work with Emma Manning of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Manning.

Emma, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve spent over 15 years in the performing arts world. I started out dancing on TV shows like Disney’s Shake It Up and performed alongside major artists like Nick Jonas, Jennifer Lopez, Sofia Reyes, and Jason Derulo. I even got to work on creative development teams for shows like America’s Got Talent – it was such a wild ride!

Then, on a whim, I decided to chase another passion and went to culinary school at the Institute of Culinary Education. I graduated with top honors in both Culinary Arts and Culinary & Restaurant Management. I just love creating in every way I can.

Photography began as a creative outlet and side hustle for me for many years. After getting married in 2019 and having my son Jag in 2020, my husband and I moved to Nashville to start fresh and give our son a more stable life. That’s when I took the leap and made photography my full-time career.

Since then, my business and life have grown so quickly. I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many amazing people – beautiful couples in love, influencers, chefs, recording artists, and brands. Some of my favorite highlights so far include photographing Raelynn and Judah at the Grand Ole Opry. That opportunity actually led me back to my dance roots, and I’ve been working with Raelynn as a movement coach for her current show while she’s out on tour with Jason Aldean. It’s been such an incredible full-circle moment.

On a personal note, we also welcomed our second child, our daughter Indy on Leap Day, February 29th in 2024!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been an easy road. Moving to a new place and starting over is incredibly daunting, and I feel so fortunate for the opportunities that have come my way.

I also find myself wrestling with hustle culture. One of the reasons I moved to Nashville was to give my kids a stable, peaceful life at a slower pace. But after so many years in Los Angeles, that constant drive to keep pushing forward is deeply ingrained in me, and it’s not easy to let go of. I have to remind myself often that life is short, and it’s okay – even necessary – to slow down and truly enjoy it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I truly believe my background has helped me navigate any situation I find myself in. I have a deep love for creating in a way that feels genuine and authentic, while also ensuring that everything behind the scenes runs smoothly and seamlessly.

Something that I feel sets me apart is my ability to create in so many different ways. I don’t see myself as a niche photographer. One day, I might be dreaming up something bold and unconventional for an artist like Chloey Indica, and the next, I’ll be capturing the sweetest, most meaningful moments at your best friend’s baby shower. I genuinely find joy in telling each story in the way it deserves to be told.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
There are so many amazing memories to choose from because my childhood was truly a blast. But some of the most fun I had was traveling for dance. I was so fortunate to visit so many places, both as a competitive dancer and as a professional. I got to have experiences that most kids don’t get to have, and I feel so grateful for that.
