Today we’d like to introduce you to Otis Hinton.
Hi Otis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started playing piano at 6 years old, by ear. And I just stuck with it, I ended up moving from Oregon to mississippi at 11, and my mom bought me a keyboard since I couldn’t play on my grandmothers in Oregon anymore. At about 13 I got good enough to play in church, I used their keyboard and tried making a beat one day and it came out nice! I brought the board home and showed my cousin (who was in the NBA at the time) and he liked the beat and told me he was willing to start a label and let me produce for him. Which he did, for about 6 years until he called it quits. I moved back to my hometown after living with him, and started a label of my own with some friends. I did that until about 2010 when I eventually went on to having a solo career in beat making and studio recording. I gained massive notoriety as I got better and better. In 2012 I moved to Hattiesburg, took over the city, and after about two years, I tried my luck in Atlanta. Gave myself a 2 year plan to stay there and learn, I ended up being there a year an eleven months. Moved back to Hattiesburg in 2015 used everything I learned in Atlanta, everything I went through in the past, ended up building me up to becoming a multi platinum producer/engineer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not a smooth road, I’m in the hip hop field so there’s a lot of ups and downs, and a lot of close deaths, just had to believe and trust God to lead the way. There’s so many stories I could go on and on
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a music producer, I make the beats they rap and sing to, I also mix and record vocals. I have almost 3000 clients that trust me with their creative ideas. I’m most proud of my longevity, going on 25 years and I still produce for all ages, I’m still the go to in my region. I’m most known for my catalog with platinum artists “Jaydayoungan” as we have 92 released records together, collecting over a billion streams. What sets me apart from others, is the fact that I can’t be outworked. I do it until the job is done and I’ve made my mark!
