Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Halal.
Hi Daniel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been obsessed with music since I was a kid. I was a touring musician and tour manager for many years, and when I was home I would work in record stores and restaurants to make ends meet. My first record store job was 20 years ago in Gainesville, FL. I set up record fairs and sold online for all those years too, so it seemed natural to open a record store. The first store, Arrow’s Aim Records, was opened in 2012. We sold that store in 2019, moved around a bit, then opened Sunshine Records in 2023 (also in Gainesville). My wife got a job at Vanderbilt last year, and we opened Daydream Records in November of 2024.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been smooth because of my friends, family, and community. I struggle during tax season but having a good accountant has helped that!
As you know, we’re big fans of Daydream Records. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Daydream Records sells used records, cassettes, and CDs. We specialize in the rare and collectible. We carry all genres of music, but especially love Jazz, Punk, and anything outside the mainstream.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
A genuine obsession with music and records. I also think being honest with folks when buying their records goes a long way.
