Life & Work with Jennifer Lawrence of Murfreesboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lawrence.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, I’m Jennifer Lawrence—no, not that one—and I’m the host of The Boro Breakfast Club here in Murfreesboro. I’m a recent transplant from Boise, Idaho. I work in the financial services industry, am an advocate for women’s financial empowerment, and prior to my move to Tennessee spent weekends body-checking ladies playing Roller Derby. (Retired, but still dangerous with a spreadsheet.)

When I moved to Tennessee, I felt that classic combo so many women face: craving connection but not wanting the same old “network and nod” vibe. I’d experienced something really special back in Boise—a group called The Boise Breakfast Club started by my friend and powerhouse founder Kelci Borges from Sherose. She built a space where women could gather over breakfast and connection without any dreaded elevator pitches.

I thought, why not bring that same spark here? So I teamed up with Kelci, to bring The Breakfast Club concept to the Boro.

The Boro Breakfast Club was born out of a desire to gather women who are building things—businesses, careers, communities, families—and give them a space where they can be seen, supported, and celebrated. We keep it casual, real, and ridiculously welcoming. No pressure. Just curated connection, education, and a damn good breakfast.

It’s not about swapping business cards or perfecting your elevator pitch—it’s about showing up as your whole self, getting to know the woman behind the business, and finding your people.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Let’s just say the road has had a few potholes—and maybe a detour or two that didn’t show up on the map.

Starting The Boro Breakfast Club as a newcomer to Middle Tennessee definitely came with challenges. I didn’t have an existing local network, so building one from scratch required faith, consistency, and a whole lot of coffee-fueled optimism. There were moments where I wondered, Is anyone even going to show up? But then one woman did. Then another. And slowly, a real community started to form. Women owned businesses that I reached out to without any introduction took a chance to work with me and it’s been such a beautiful exchange highlighting what unique talents and gifts they bring to our community.

Another hurdle? Reframing what “networking” means. We’re so used to polished pitches and transactional spaces that creating something more human-centered takes a mindset shift—once you experience The Breakfast Club you see what I mean. But the magic happens when you stay true to the mission: real connection over performative conversation.

Oh—and shoutout to imposter syndrome, who definitely tried to RSVP to every meeting. Luckily, she’s not on the guest list anymore.

The road’s been curvy, but it’s also been beautiful. Every challenge just reminded me why this kind of space matters so much.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I spend my days deep in the world of retirement plans—translating the complex into something that actually makes sense for real people running real businesses. I specialize in company-sponsored plans like 401(k), Solo(k), Cash Balance, and Defined Benefit plans, along with executive benefits and life insurance strategies. I hold both AIF® and CPFA designations, and I’ve always been drawn to the “how” and “why” behind plan design.

What I love most is helping business owners see their benefit plan not just as a box to check, but as a tool to build long-term wealth—for themselves and their teams. I’m especially proud of the work I’ve done adopting new technology and building systems that make education more accessible, more visual, and honestly, more human.

I’ve started sharing more of that education online, too because I want people to feel confident before they even reach out. If someone scrolls past a post and finally gets how their plan works and what to expect from industry partners, that’s a win.

I also serve on the Women in Retirement Third Thursday committee and recently stepped into a co-leader role for the Nashville WIPN chapter. I believe deeply in supporting more women in this industry—because we belong at the table and in the conversations that shape financial futures.

At the core of everything I do is this: clarity builds confidence. And everyone deserves to feel confident when it comes to their money and their future.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Curiosity—without a doubt.

It’s what drives me to dig into complex retirement plan rules and figure out how to explain them in a way that actually makes sense. It’s what pushes me to keep learning, keep improving, and keep asking, how could this be better—for the client, the team, the process?

But it’s also the heart behind The Boro Breakfast Club. I started this community because I was genuinely curious about the women around me—who they were, what they were building, and what kind of support they were craving. That same curiosity made me brave enough to reach out to strangers, show up without a script, and build something new in a city I was still learning myself.

Curiosity creates connection. And connection creates possibility.

Whether I’m helping someone understand their benefits or hosting a breakfast full of brilliant women, it always starts with a simple question: What matters most to you?
