Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahquell “Jay” Johnson.
Hi Jahquell “Jay”, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Nashville native who has always been drawn to storytelling—especially through visuals that move people. After studying film and media, I returned home with a mission to create work that felt purposeful and culturally impactful. I began building the foundation for what would become Beyond Sight Production—a full-service production company rooted in emotion, excellence, and authenticity. I spent years developing my voice behind the lens, collaborating with local artists, brands, and grassroots events, often with limited resources but an unlimited drive to create.
As the vision expanded, so did the team. I hand-selected some of the most talented, diverse, and forward-thinking creatives in the industry—each bringing a unique perspective and energy to the work we do. Within just six months of launching, Beyond Sight has produced for Grammy-winning rap artist Roddy Ricch, legendary author and country music trailblazer Alice Randall (author of The Wind Done Gone and the first Black woman to write a No. 1 country hit), and is now collaborating with RW Cox Inc., a commercial construction firm based in Dallas, Texas. What started as a solo journey has evolved into a full-fledged movement—and the momentum is only growing. Beyond Sight is becoming more than a production company—it’s a creative home for meaningful stories, bold visuals, and lasting impact.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been smooth—and I’ve learned that everything that shines isn’t gold. Not all money is good money, and not every client is the right fit. In the early stages, it was tempting to take on every opportunity that came our way, but we quickly realized that alignment, respect, and shared vision matter more than the paycheck.
At Beyond Sight, we’re now intentional about the energy we accept and the projects we pursue. Every collaboration must move us forward—creatively, professionally, and energetically. The struggles taught us how to stand firm in our value, protect our creative integrity, and build a company that’s driven by purpose, not pressure.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Beyond Sight Production, I serve as the Founder, CEO, and Head Creative Director. I also direct all of our film and video work—ranging from music videos to branded content and event coverage. With a background in theater and a bachelor’s degree in performance, I occasionally step in front of the camera myself when the creative vision calls for it.
What sets us apart is our ability to bring stories to life with emotional depth and visual precision. I personally lead the creative direction for every project—from conceptualizing cover art to overseeing full-scale video productions. I’m most proud of how quickly we’ve earned trust in the industry, not just for the quality of our work, but for how intentional and collaborative our process is. Beyond Sight isn’t just about content—it’s about creating moments that leave a lasting impact.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with Beyond Sight by hiring us for video production, creative direction, branding, or event coverage. We’re always open to meaningful collaborations with artists, brands, and organizations that align with our vision. Supporting us can also be as simple as sharing our work, making referrals, or staying connected on social media—we truly value every form of support.
