Hidden Gems: Meet Walter Holt of The wildwood reserve barbershop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter Holt.

Hi Walter, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for creativity whether it’s art or building painting and so on. But I’m also had a passion for people and to serve my community. I got into Barbara and after a conversation with a long-term friend that was opening a new shop on the square in Murfreesboro Tennessee. The what if Factor kicked in and the possibilities were endless so I quit my job in Nashville where I was born and raised and enrolled into a barber school. I was there for about a week when Shawn the owner of woodsviking called and said you need to come work at the shop they started an apprentice program. Unfortunately I had already started a school and that was not an option so I unenrolled and re-enrolled into another program so I could do my full apprenticeship under Shawn. I work at Woods Viking for almost 4 years before I decided it was time for me to move forward and grow and open a shop. I just continued to grind and try to find the right place and landed at what was an old car wash I spent about six and a half months remodeling turn down walls painting changing things to what now is the Wildwood Reserve. I wanted to shop to have meaning and history behind the name so I named it after my great great grandfather James Holts farm known as the wildwood.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course their struggles and you have Growing Pains and as me going into an old car wash something was always breaking or had to be replaced. Also just taking my time and finding the right Barbers to be in the shop we’re built off Family morals and values and it is welcoming to everyone that walks in the door. Almost 3 years ago I started with just two guys and slowly have built up to now what is 7 of very exceptional Barber’s.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Wildwood Reserve is unlike any Barber Shop you’ve ever stepped into. I have taken the essence of the 1930s and 40s prohibition and mixed it with a touch of myself. Why would raises the bar for barber shops with traditional techniques modern styles and so much more. I believe everyone that walks through my door should be treated like family. We not only believe in creating long-term clients but also building lasting relationships with the people that come in as well as the community. We stay involved in fundraisers sponsor schools baseball teams softball teams race teams and a few others. We are best known for not only all these things but our attention to detail and making sure everyone that walks in the door gets an experience they deserve.
