Daily Inspiration: Meet Brandon Glover, PhD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Glover, PhD.

Hi Brandon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Dr. Brandon M. Glover is a filmmaker, educator, and media entrepreneur born in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1979. Raised by his mother, Henrietta Glover, Brandon grew up in Columbia, SC alongside his older brother and younger sister. Though he never knew his father, Brandon credits his mother’s unwavering strength and love for shaping the man he is today. He is the grandson of the late Reverend Dr. H.T. Williams and Willie Mae Williams—his grandfather served as pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church in Orangeburg for 50 years. Brandon also spent much of his childhood on the farm of his great-grandmother, Effie Spigner, in St. Matthews, South Carolina. It was there, playing in the barns as a young boy, that the inspiration for his company name—Out Da Barnz Entertainment LLC—was born.
After graduating from C.A. Johnson High School in 1997, Brandon pursued higher education with determination. He earned his Associate in Arts from Midlands Technical College in 2007, followed by a Bachelor’s in Media Arts from the University of South Carolina in 2010. He then completed a Master of Science in Entertainment Business at Full Sail University in 2011 and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Business Management from Northcentral University in 2017.
In 2010, Brandon founded Out Da Barnz Entertainment LLC, a video production company based in the Lower Richland area of Columbia. His first feature film, Son of a Preacher Man, was released in 2022 and is now streaming globally on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Tubi, and other digital platforms, and has won numerous awards, including a Telly award in 2025. Over the years, Brandon has written, directed, edited, and produced a wide variety of content—from short films and music videos to weddings, live events, and corporate training materials.
In addition to his entrepreneurial work, Brandon is a dedicated educator and media leader. Since 2018, he has served as Media Content Director at Bible Way Church of Atlas Road, where he manages a team of 20–25 volunteers and oversees all aspects of digital and in-house media production. In 2022, he joined the faculty at the University of South Carolina as an adjunct professor in the School of Arts and Visual Design, where he mentors and trains the next generation of media professionals. He previously served as the first video editing instructor at Midlands Technical College’s continuing education program and taught in the USC Upward Bound program, continuing his commitment to education and outreach.
Currently, Dr. Glover is in pre-production for his second original feature film, Jasmine Rose a.k.a. J.R., and recently directed Choices, a new film under the Jeff Akers Film Network.
Brandon M. Glover stands as a testament to perseverance, vision, and purpose—using his voice, creativity, and faith to tell stories that matter and empower the communities he serves.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Brandon M. Glover’s journey has been marked by resilience through adversity. Raised in a loving but financially struggling household, Brandon witnessed the effects of his mother’s battle with drug addiction. Though she provided for her children with everything she had, the realities of poverty—like going without food or living without electricity—were part of daily life. In his youth, Brandon made decisions that led him down a troubled path, hustling in the streets and getting involved with people and situations that could have derailed his future entirely.

But deep inside, Brandon always carried a drive for excellence and a desire to do right. It was through the creative spark of music—discovered alongside his childhood friends—that he began to chart a new course. That passion eventually evolved into a career in video production, and together with those same friends, he built Out Da Barnz Entertainment LLC. His journey from the streets to the studio is a testament to transformation, loyalty, faith, and the power of choosing purpose over circumstance.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started out as a music lover. In high school, I played multiple instruments in the band—trumpet, baritone, French horn, and tuba. After graduating, I transitioned into hip-hop and spent nearly two decades as an artist, beginning with secular rap and later moving into gospel rap around 2012. Music was my first creative language, and it opened the door for everything else that followed.

My journey into film began in college. Originally, I planned to study audio engineering so I could take my music to a professional level. But after being invited to work on a short film as an audio mixer, I was introduced to a whole new world—cameras, storytelling, directing—and I fell in love. That experience changed everything for me. I started learning everything I could about cinematography, writing, and directing while still in school, and in 2010, I founded Out Da Barnz Entertainment, LLC.

Now, I proudly wear many hats: filmmaker, director, cinematographer, and educator. While I still carry my love for music, my heart lies in directing and cinematography. That’s where I feel most alive, most in sync with my purpose. I’ve taught editing and digital media at the college level, and I’m passionate about passing this knowledge on to the next generation. My art is rooted in storytelling, grounded in my past, and driven by a desire to inspire and create with excellence.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson that I have learned along my journey, is to always respect and love people. Though you may not always agree with people and their logic, ambitions and morals, it does not mean you treat them differently. You have to understand that people come from all walks of life, but the common thing that most people need is respect and love. Those two things will get you further in life, than any gift, talent or knowledge you may possess.
