Today we’d like to introduce you to Neely Roberts.
Hi Neely, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I was absolutely captivated by old family photos and the stories behind them. Every time we visited my grandparents, I’d pull out their albums and ask questions about the people in the photographs. I can still remember staring at images of my great-grandparents, wondering about their lives and imagining the stories behind each picture.
Even as a little girl, I would sit in the back of my parents’ closet with bags full of printed photos, and lose myself in those memories—our first family vacation, winning the 10-and-under softball tournament where my dad was the coach, the blurry snapshot of me as a flower girl, and of course, the wonderfully awkward middle school hairstyles only photos can immortalize.
When my sister was in elementary school, she received a Polaroid camera as a birthday present, and I’ll never forget the first time she snapped a photo of me with my aunt. The idea that you could capture a fleeting moment and instantly hold it in your hands felt like no other. From then on, I was hooked!
In high school, I was gifted a film camera and never put it down. From best friend hangouts to school trips, I was always snapping pictures, wanting to preserve every memory. There’s something profoundly special about seeing the people you love and the places you’ve been frozen in time.
To me, photos are more than images. They are tangible reminders of love, perseverance, celebration, strength, courage, and hope—the pieces of our story that deserve to be held and remembered long after the moments have passed.
That passion eventually became the foundation of my photography business. Today, as a Nashville luxury photographer, I create more than just portraits—I craft experiences. From personalized styling sessions and professional hair and makeup to designing heirloom albums and wall art, my goal is to help families and seniors preserve their stories in a way that feels effortless, meaningful, and truly unforgettable. What began as a childhood fascination with holding onto memories has grown into a career helping others create theirs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Over the past decade, one of my biggest challenges has been balancing the creative side of photography with building a sustainable business. In the early years, I juggled a full-time job while spending late nights editing and missing weekends with my husband to photograph sessions and meet deadlines. Making the shift from hobbyist to business owner required me to develop pricing structures, systems, and processes that could support growth without losing the heart behind my work. At the same time, I was refining my style and brand—learning how to create a consistent, luxury experience that felt authentic to me while standing out in a saturated and competitive Nashville market. The industry itself is constantly evolving, so I’ve had to adapt to everything from the rise of social media—which seems to change every other week, and Instagram Reels (I still struggle with those!) to offering new products and services all while staying true to a timeless, personal approach.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is built around creating a fully customized, stress-free photography experience for high school seniors and families in the Nashville and surrounding areas. I specialize in crafting luxury portrait sessions that are as meaningful as the images themselves. What sets me apart is the level of care and personalization I bring to every step of the process. From in-home styling sessions where we curate outfits, to professional hair and makeup that ensures my clients feel confident and beautiful, I handle every detail so they can simply enjoy the experience. If my clients want a destination session, I can create a one-of-a-kind destination experience as well as making sure it matches the aesthetic they are looking for.
I’m most proud that my brand focuses on client relationships as well as creating tangible heirlooms rather than just digital files. I believe photography is meant to be seen, held, and passed down, so I design custom albums and luxury wall art for each client—often hand delivering and installing pieces in their homes myself. My goal is to capture not just images, but the love, legacy, and personality behind them.
What I want readers to know is that my work goes far beyond taking photos. I create an experience that celebrates my clients and the people they love most, turning fleeting moments into lasting, meaningful art they can treasure for generations.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
You don’t have to worry about awkward silences during your session. We’ll have great conversations and I’ll be giving directions the entire time. Your session will feel like hanging out with an old friend.
