Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina Gammon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What started in 2006 as a small dream to feed the community has grown into a thriving local market. I grew up in Nashville, where my family gardened and frequently visited the Nashville Farmers Market. That early connection to fresh food and community stuck with me.
Before starting my own market, I visited the Nashville Farmers Market in hopes to meet some farmers and get an opportunity to gain some knowledge and experience. After talking to many vendors, I finally met someone who gave me a chance! That opportunity opened the door to so many resources and I was eventually able to start a small market in Hendersonville, TN. Over time, I helped establish the Hendersonville Farmers Market and built relationships with mentors, including guidance from The Produce Place in Nashville, just down the street from where I grew up.
Year after year, the business has continued to grow. We’ve now expanded to include Franklin Juice Company (formerly Juice Nashville), as well as a cozy café and coffee shop. From humble beginnings to a flourishing community hub, it’s all rooted in that original dream of nourishing and serving others.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When we started the market in 2006, it was before the real “shop local” movement had gained momentum. We had to educate the community about what we were doing and why it mattered. The recession hit not long after we started, and winters were especially tough. With fewer customers and less produce available, we had to learn how to pivot—produce alone wasn’t going to carry us through. It took creativity, persistence, and a lot of heart to make it work. But each obstacle pushed us to grow smarter, stronger, and more connected to the people we serve.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our market is all about bringing the farm to your table. We offer a wide selection of local goods—fresh produce, milk, eggs, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and other everyday grocery staples. We also serve breakfast and lunch, with fresh grab-and-go meals, a coffee shop, and a juice bar.
What makes it even more special is that it’s a true family effort. I’m grateful to work alongside my family, everyone’s involved in one way or another. We’re proud to support local farmers, makers, and small businesses, and we love being a part of our community’s daily life.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Along the way, I leaned into every resource I could find. I read produce books to better understand what I was selling, took cooking classes (especially those focused on specific diets), and built friendships with farmers and vendors. Most of all leaned on my faith and the Bible for guidance and strength. Each step helped me grow not just as a business owner, but as someone deeply committed to nourishing both body and soul.
