Today we’d like to introduce you to Reina Davis.
Hi Reina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Reina Davis and I am a hairstylist in the Nashville area.
After graduating highschool I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I enrolled at the local community collage and figured I’d start there. I quickly realized it wasn’t for me and I needed to have a creative outlet that would also financially support me. I dropped out and started a cosmetology program at Paul Mitchell. After the first week I knew I had made the right Decision. The next week Covid hit. It was a very unsure time in many ways but I never let the uncertainty deter me from my goal. After graduating I started at my first salon. For the next 3 years I continued my education. Found my niche & discovered the type of hairstylist I wanted to be. For me doing hair is about making people feel confident in themselves. Which is what I hope you feel when you sit in my chair
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After working at the salon for 3 years I no longer enjoyed what I was doing. I needed a change. Some time to reevaluate. I left the salon and took a three month break waiting tables and contemplating my decision.. I was uncertain, scared & slightly regretting quitting. Then I read something that said “love who you are when you are becoming the person you want to be.” All of the sudden my mindset shifted. I was offered a job opportunity and took it. I remember being so nervous but I knew that success doesn’t come to those who are scared
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in lived-in colors, creative cuts, & curly hair. Anything creative, shags, painted shaved heads, crazy layers. I really just love it all. I think what sets me apart is I truly enjoy what I do. I take pride in always learning from my mistakes. Spending the time and money to continue my education. For me doing hair is an art.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
My biggest lesson was to stay authentic to myself, when I first started I found myself being someone I wasn’t. Showing your personality and who you are will attract the people who that will support you the most.
