Today we’d like to introduce you to Bea Robinson.
Hi Bea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have to confess, when I went to another town to have my first permanent makeup training I had zero expectations. After a very painful eyeliner experience as a client, I was very insecure about letting my clients go through the same discomfort. My colleage Dr. Marcelo Arona was the one who pushed me towards this new adventure, he always said I had great eyes for details and I would be very successful doing this kind of work. I took a leap of faith and decided to try… what could go wrong right? Worst case scenario I would just add that certificate to my drawer and it would be there with other ones. That week completely changed my life! I felt so in love with the craft and decided to work on 60 people for free before start charging fees. My first trainer, Ms. Luana Serpa was great and gave me an outstanding amount of knowledge. She is still in the business and operates her studio in Sao Paulo, Brazil since 2000.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, the road wasn’t smooth because every customer comes with a different set of individual characteristics: age, skin type, signs of aging, ethnicity, over plucked messed eyebrows and as any other craft there is a lot of trial and error. In 2006 I started training other artists and I had many traveling from other states to learn my own techniques, whose I developed as a matter of professional survival. When I moved to USA in 2011, I have had enough experience to start my business here with confidence. In 2008 I came to America for the first time to learn advanced techniques and medical tattooing. I was the first in my area to offer those services and of course I donated over 400 free procedures for cancer survivors (areola and nipples pigmentation). It felt so good to see those ladies with big smiles on their faces. At the end, everything felt so rewarding.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Techniques comes and goes all the time. I started offering microshading eyebrows at the very beginning. My aunt Deise Zabeu was my first customer. I did her brows 25 years ago and when I have the opportunity to visit my family in Brazil, she comes over to have eyebrows refreshment. I have been coloring her brows for decades and they still look awesome and she still loves them. That means, this technique works very well in the long run and I feel very confident about showing my clients how great their eyebrows will look in the future, because I have seen them very often.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am an OCD artist, my appointments take at least 3 hours because I keep looking at their faces over and over again just to be sure they match. I am glad I have this gift because that is what makes my work unique, close to perfect!
