Story & Lesson Highlights with Morgan Weinstock

We recently had the chance to connect with Morgan Weinstock and have shared our conversation below.

Morgan, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, I find so much joy in cooking and baking. I love experimenting with seasonal ingredients, trying new recipes, and sharing the results with family and friends. Hosting a dinner or baking something special for the people I love is truly my love language. Some of my favorite memories are the simple moments gathered around the table with my children—where meals often feel more like comedy shows than formal dinners. Those laughs and connections are what bring me the most happiness.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Morgan Weinstock, co-founder of Jackson Morgan Southern Cream, a Tennessee-based cream liqueur brand named after my brother and me. Our mission is simple: to bring people together over great cocktails and good company. As a family-owned business, we’ve built our brand around Southern hospitality with a playful twist, offering unexpected flavors like Salted Caramel and Lemon Icebox.

Our story runs deep. My great-grandfather was making whiskey in the 1920s, and over a century later, we’re proud to carry on that legacy in our own way. We’re not just selling liqueur; we’re creating moments. Whether it’s Christmas morning with a peppermint mocha hot chocolate or a summer evening on the porch with neighbors and a glass of Whipped Orange Cream, Jackson Morgan is about connection and celebration. Beyond the bottle, we love inspiring others to host through The Sip, our blog filled with recipes and entertaining ideas. From award-winning flavors to everyday gatherings, our goal is to be part of life’s special moments—both big and small.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My parents set the example early on, instilling grit, resilience, and the belief that you show up no matter what. They also owned a small business, giving my brother and me a front-row seat to what entrepreneurship truly looks like. From an early age, we learned about the long hours, dedication, and pride that come with building something of your own.

They were deeply involved in our community, showing us the value of giving back and being present for others. Growing up in a small town in Tennessee shaped me in countless ways, fostering a strong sense of community, loyalty, and hospitality that continues to guide me today.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her not to worry so much about having it all figured out. The best parts of my career came from leaning into unexpected opportunities—like joining a liquor company, for starters—that weren’t part of the original plan. Trust the process, keep showing up, and most importantly, believe in yourself. And never be afraid to admit when you don’t know something. Asking questions and staying curious will take you much further than pretending to have all the answers.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One misconception is that spirits brands are only about what’s inside the bottle. Customers today are looking for more than just a drink—they want connection and a genuine story behind the label. Perhaps the biggest myth of all is that only the “big guys” can succeed in the liquor industry. We’ve proven that wrong time and time again, building a family-owned brand that continues to thrive in a highly competitive space.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
When we launch a new flavor, win an award, or get mentioned by someone famous, it still gives me chills. I can’t believe celebrities like Kathy Hilton even know about our little brand. Just as meaningful, though, are the moments when customers include us in their holidays, weddings, and family traditions—or when a childhood friend shares how excited they were to find Jackson Morgan in their state.

One of the best parts is sharing all of it with my family and a team that feels like family, celebrating both the wins and the lessons from our losses together. Those moments remind me why I love what I do and how far our family business has come.
