Life & Work with Garrett Richardson of Nashville, Tennessee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrett Richardson.

Hi Garrett, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Garrett Richardson is a luxury wedding photographer based in Nashville and Southern California, serving couples across the U.S. and worldwide. Known for his candid, documentary-style approach and timeless, editorial-quality images, Garrett captures authentic moments with warmth, artistry, and intention.

With a calming presence and positive energy, he helps couples feel confident and at ease in front of the camera — from engagement sessions to multi-day destination weddings. Inspired by his travels across Europe with his wife (they met during a study abroad trip to Greece!), Garrett has also co-led marriage retreats in Paris and San Diego, deepening his passion for celebrating love stories in all stages.

Garrett’s work has been featured in Brides, Martha Stewart, Sunset Magazine, and more. He has photographed celebrity weddings and events for clients including Major League Baseball All-Stars and The Bachelor (ABC) contestants. Whether you’re planning an intimate elopement, a luxury wedding weekend, or a destination celebration, Garrett tailors each experience to reflect your story.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every business experiences challenges, and wedding photography is no exception. I’ve heard it said that 80% of small businesses fail within their first two years, so I’m grateful that mine has continued to grow since I started in 2011.

Working in high-pressure environments is never easy, but I actually find it invigorating. Wedding photography is not for the faint of heart — there are family dynamics, financial considerations, logistics, and social pressures that can all create stress on a couple’s big day. My role requires me to be calm, dependable, and fully present in the midst of all that, and I’ve come to really embrace that responsibility.

One practice that’s been especially helpful is keeping sight of “the why.” At the end of the day, a wedding is about two people who have fallen in love and are choosing to create a life together. Remembering that perspective helps me navigate challenges with steadiness and joy. Since I spend most of the wedding day alongside the bride and groom, I feel honored to help center their experience on what matters most.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My focus is on marriage and relationships — not just the events of life, but the real and raw moments that become the stories we tell. I hope to create space for couples to thrive, not only after the wedding but throughout each season of life. Our team is deeply committed to attention to detail and to making people feel truly seen and known.

Every wedding and every relationship is unique, and we want to honor what makes each couple who they are. We love calling out the gold in people and preserving their journey, so they can look back on where they’ve come from with gratitude and look forward to where they’re headed with confidence.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like most about Nashville:
From a wedding photography perspective, I love how fast Nashville is growing and evolving. New people are moving here every day, which brings fresh energy, ideas, and opportunities. There are many creative people here, and that spirit is evident in the way couples celebrate — from the beautiful rolling hills to the love of music, there are endless opportunities to entertain your guests in Nashville.

What I like least about Nashville:
If I had to choose, I’d say there’s still room for Nashville to expand its venue landscape — particularly when it comes to outdoor spaces designed with a luxury clientele in mind. The demand is there, but there aren’t quite enough venues that offer elevated outdoor experiences while maintaining the level of sophistication that many couples are looking for. As the city continues to grow, I’d love to see more of those spaces created to match the energy and creativity that Nashville is already known for.

Pricing:

  • Most couples spend between $20,000-$30,000 on their wedding photography
