Gregory David Mayo of Berry Hill on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gregory David Mayo. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Gregory David, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity – for me, all else collapses when you do not have integrity as your foundation for both your professional as well as personal life. It forms the basis of who we really are, how we will treat those around us, and the future that we will live with others. Integrity means not only having it as a quality but also living it passionately with very strong moral principles and values – trustworthiness and honesty.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been a talent & literary agent for several decades, starting my own agency in Los Angeles in the 90s, relocated to Berlin for five years, and now currently in Nashville, otherwise known as “Music City”. As an agent, I represent actors, writers, and directors for positions in film, television, cable, streaming, and theater. I have been blessed to have represented many notable individuals including Gene Barry, Michael Callan, Ann Crumb, James Darren, Joyce DeWitt, Sandra Gould, Bill Hayes, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Tippi Hedren, Olivia Hussey, George Kennedy, Carol Lawrence, Ruta Lee, Emmanuel Lewis, Howard Morris, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Angus Scrimm and many others. Currently, I have a roster of American as well as international talent and projects.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My older brother, Joey greatly shaped my vision of myself. It was his support and encouragement through childhood, adolescence, and finally adulthood that allowed me to find full acceptance of myself and fully commit to my path for success and happiness.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear, all too often debilitates us from living out life to the very best that it can be. Too often, I have feared what ‘may’ happen in the future when in reality, circumstances in life change and therefore there was no reason for the fear in the first place. Fear of the future, whether it be emotional, financial, or professional has certainly held me back. I now know that fear is overcome by living authentically with purpose. Thankfully, I am now in that place.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I would hope that they would say that my faith in God and my commitment to the people that are in my life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would hope that people would say that I lived a life with faith in God and myself – lived with passion and authenticity. My story would have to mention all those who supported me on my path and for the great fortune and wisdom that God blessed me with.
