Story & Lesson Highlights with Patrick Dobson of Davidson County

We recently had the chance to connect with Patrick Dobson and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Patrick, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Honestly, a good RPG lol im a huge gamer so when I find a good RPG, I will literally be stuck on level grinding and story progression. I recently bought a Switch 2 so I’ll be literally sitting in my car and be stuck on grind mode in the store parking lot before I even go inside.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Patrick Dobson I am the creator and owner of Without A Word. Without A Word is a summary of all my talents, I dance, mime, draw, and act. I know you are thinking acting takes words, but they are not my personal words so thats how I slide that one in there. Currently I have been working with local production companies such as Big Swole Productions, Actin Up Media, and Brown Brothers filming and producing content and furthering the independent film market in Nashville TN. On a even better note I currently won Best Actor for a short film called Breaking Free at the 2025 Milwaukee Short Film Festival, shout out to Truss Me Film.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would have to say my great aunt Evelyn. She would watch James Brown and Michael Jackson among other entertainers and would allow me to act out what I saw from them for her, I was literally a toddler living with her in Detroit, but I remember her words of encouragement and how she saw the talent in me like it happened 5 mins ago. She would always call out an artist and ask me to perform that person’s routine when other family was around, that confidence she put into me just by doing that always stuck with me and made me love entertainment just from the reactions.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That it makes you stronger and more aware than success. Success made me comfortable and not as hungry, but suffering and struggle brings the dog out of me to literally take over the world by any means necessary. Failure and error in life whether it was business or relationship wise always makes me better and more aware.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely not at all. I learned at a young age to protect the brand, especially considering I was in the religious side of entertainment, that really held me hostage in a way as far of my decisions in anything else I did entertainment wise or personal. I didn’t wanna mess up what I had going on in the church, I lost relationships and friendships as well because of this, but ultimately I didn’t lose my brand. Honestly its like wearing a mask and it stressed me out, as of now I don’t mask anything anymore I am me. I still keep what or who I love close to my chest but as far as just playing the PR game, thats out the window.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I will regret not putting out all the choreography, scripts, sketches, and ideas I have floating around in my head.
