Stelle Amor of East on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Stelle Amor shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Stelle, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
To be honest, completely wandering. I let my curiosity and gut guide my days, feeling privileged and beyond grateful that my reality is filled with flowers, love, and music. There’s been times in my life where I set out on an exact mission, but God always laughs at our plans. I’ve been rerouted enough at this point to know the moment is what really matters, it’s all we have. That doesn’t mean I don’t have goals or ambitions for the future, but I recognize there is no straight path to get there, and the best things happen when we trust the flow of life, not fight it. Also following the butterflies has led me to a lot of beautiful views where taking the beaten path wouldn’t have. I’m grateful for my chaotic artistic journey, as unstable as it’s been; all the hardships have me living my most authentic and healthy life yet, with a heart full of more compassion and understanding.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hellllloooooo 🙂 I’m Stelle, an artist based in East Nashville! My music is a hybrid of genres and influences that I call Soulternative. The rock to my balloon, Dr. Dave, is my love and musical partner; together we make it all happen! We’ve been working on a lot of recording projects and had planned on having a few things released this spring/summer but I’ve already made the mistake of speaking too soon with excitement when there’s still some loose ends to tie… So I won’t say when, but y’all so much is COMING!! I have one of those dreamer brains that comes with unrealistic expectations, like thinking I can climb 3 mountains in the day. Luckily I’m also very stubborn and persistent so even if it takes forever, you better believe I’m still climbing and the songs are coming! I did release a song this summer with Jon Worthy for our sync project, Of A Generation called “Evangeline” that we wrote, performed, engineered and produced. You can find it on all platforms! Fun fact and shout to my mom sang some background vocals on the song! It was fun to have her in the studio and show her my musical world. I’m here to grow beauty from the darkness, and help people process all the chaos through my songs and art; I know its the only thing that heals me.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I think it takes more than a moment to shape how one sees the world, but there are definitely defining times that awaken wisdom. I’m about to release a song called “Dead Bird” that talks about a pivotal time for me. The opening verse starts:
“There was a dead bird in the water, so I put him under the pine
With a clover flower, but I still don’t feel right. What’s right?” – I actually lived this line in 2023 on my family farm. I was staying there helping with my Dads hospice care and taking care of the animals. The day I found the dead bird in the water, it was not just heart breaking to see its fate, but the animals were also upset. It was hot and they needed drinking water that wasn’t contaminated. Trying to fix the situation I cleaned up the water so the animals could quench their thirst and buried the bird, but my heart still hurt and head was spinning as it had me thinking of how connected we all are, how much the tragedies we endure seep into the essence that fill our days, and how no one is left untouched by the darkness of death. Death is one of those shadow subjects– it’s all around us, it’s inevitable to us all, but we never wanna talk about it or think about it. It’s a subject that can make even the strongest of minds spiral, so when it suddenly drops into your day it can lead to a whole existential crisis- which for me turned into a song. I was already in a dark headspace caretaking for Dad, he was only 55 when diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and it was not easy to see a jolly man be destroyed from the inside out so quickly when he was just dreaming of retirement. Death has a ripple effect- it takes not just a life, but a piece of everyone around who cares. It has a grabbing effect, like it should have claws. We just filmed the music video for this song this summer, there’s a scene where the dancers are grabbing at me with metal talons and dropping black fabric over me – representing the weight of grief and its clawing feeling. At the end of the day, what I call the dead bird lesson, is that life is precious and reality truly is a fickle thing; the only thing you can truly guarantee is uncertainty and what you choose to make of it.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You don’t need EVERYONE to love you.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to addiction awareness as I’ve seen it take too many amazing lives and destroy so much around me.
I want people to be educated and have the resources and community they need to thrive. I always let all my skeletons out of the closet when I write songs, and as hard as it is to be painfully honest, my hope is to make art that can provide a genuine connection to people. My song Fentanyl Fight was released for Overdose Awareness Day in 2023, but I hope its message is heard until this opioid crisis is over. The song is about the survivor’s guilt of losing a loved one to an overdose. I hope listeners that relate know they aren’t alone in their grief and through community and awareness we can heal.

Ways to get involved

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I actually just built what I call my “peace pond” in my backyard. It was a bit chaotic to dig and get started, but now it’s my water garden oasis. We have 6 goldfish – Miho, Goldie, Margo, Chief, Tip, and Hawk! Feeding the fish is one of my favorite times of day and always makes me feel like a giddy child again. In between creative projects you can find me out there with our little pittie Luci, soaking in the sunshine and planting flowers. I love when we have a slow evening and can watch the sunset and the fireflies glow.
