Casey Cannon shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Casey, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My focus lately has been on building a business that allows me, as well as my team members, to enjoy life. I’m blessed to have a husband that wants to stay home with my kids and homeschool them. I really love my job and am so grateful to be in a position to work from home, work flexible hours, and be present in my kids lives for more than just mornings and evenings during the week. I’m proud to build a business that can give that to my employees, too. It’s not all rainbows and sunshine, but hearing my team share their wins with work and being fulfilled by what they are doing brings me so much joy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the owner of EBJ & Company, an event planning and design company based in Nashville, TN. We specialize in full service wedding planning and design, but also can run logistics for couples that have planned their own wedding as well as corporate and non-profit events.
Most of our couples are from this area or have a deep tie to Nashville that makes them excited to choose it for their wedding. You can find mostly timeless, garden-esque designs in our portfolio. However, we pride ourselves on designing events that feel right for each individual client, and reflects their individual style. Private home weddings are especially meaningful to us and by the end of 2025, we’ll have planned 15 private-home weddings since the start of EBJ.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
In 2017, Janie Varn, the owner of Events by Janie (the EBJ of EBJ & Company), invited me to move back to Franklin and take over her company that she had been building for over 15 years. I had assisted her on wedding days since high school and throughout college, but I never thought wedding planning would be my career. Shortly after graduating college, my husband and I lived just outside of Washington D.C. and I was helping Janie remotely with planning her weddings. I think she saw the potential I had to be a great wedding planner before I ever did. My husband and I didn’t like where we were living, so after getting the offer from Janie, we moved back to my hometown of Franklin and I started wedding planning full-time with her. A year and a half later she retired and I officially became the owner of what is now EBJ & Company.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
About 5 years after I started planning full time and 3.5 years after taking over as the owner, I was really starting to get into a groove of knowing who my clients were, who my industry community is, and how to manage my time. I was still working mostly nights and naps because I had a baby in 2019. At the start of 2022 after I had my second baby I really started to see the potential of how EBJ could grow. I shared this with my husband who was working from home but had a full time job at the time. I was telling him all the possibilities of what our life could look like if we went all in on EBJ & Company and what I would need from him if we were to do that. God knew what He was doing when He gave me my husband because Nick was so supportive and saw the vision, too. He quit his job in May of 2022 and has ridden the highs and lows of full time self employment with me ever since. It has come with a lot of sacrifice, but the time we have with our kids now and being able to give other women jobs they love has been so rewarding.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends and family would say that my faith is most important to me. Though I don’t have it all figured out even in the slightest, I do my best to walk through life with open hands ready to give or receive whatever God sends my way. I try to be very open about my beliefs even through my business and you’ll see on our website that we share our belief that marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts (in addition to salvation of course). Everything our company does in planning events for our clients stems from this belief and in service to our King!
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I never lost sight of what truly matters. Faith & family. Everything else is a bonus but nothing worth stressing over. I try to remind myself of that daily!
