Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Charles Chandler

Charles Chandler shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Charles, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
When people hear of a “cash home buyer” it is common for people to associate that with “sleezy investor” or “low ball” offers. And for some cash home buying companies, THAT’S TRUE! Look, there are bad actors in every industry. But, there’s a pretty simple way to stand out and above competition – transparency, integrity, and following through on commitments made. So, what I think people misunderstand most about our business in particular is that we are able to help many homeowners in ways traditional real estate cannot. For example, providing cash advances, navigating complex probate issues, buying houses as-is with no inspections or financing contingencies, and providing relocation assistance as a few examples.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Charles Chandler, Co-Founder and CEO of My Tennessee Home Solution. We are a local, Veteran owned and operated home buying company that serves Middle Tennessee. We buy houses directly from homeowners that are looking to sell their house in an easier, more efficient way than traditionally with a realtor. Some of the unique things we do is provide cash offers, concierge listing services, and the ability to buy houses that have little to no equity. Even better, we provide relocation assistance to many homeowners that don’t know what to do once they do sell their house to our team.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
My deployment overseas revealed the worst and best of humanity. It showed me the strength of what a team can accomplish that is focused and driven to accomplish a mission. It also showed me how little we control as people, which drove me closer to my Faith and reliance on God.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
After failing, I refocus on the things that are within my control, aim to be more consistent, eliminate distractions, and plan with intentionality. There are plenty of examples of failure within my life, but I do not allow a failure to slow me down or stop me from reaching my goals or potential. What I can do is own it, learn from it, and do better moving forward through disciplined focus to achieve results.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you cannot be a profitable company and focus on helping people beyond the transaction. What I’ve observed in our industry is the focus on profit over people, greed, and manipulation. It absolutely is true that in this industry you can be a sustainable company and focus on making a positive impact at the same time. It’s not one or the other, but actually we have seen that we continue to grow and do well by focusing on making a positive impact on the community, regardless of if we work with the homeowner or not.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My family, Faith and relationship with God, which is more fulfilling and greater than any materialistic possession or role.
