Inspiring Conversations with Ariel Lowe of Psychobabble Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Lowe.

Hi Ariel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was young when I tried to understand the anger, fear and sadness I was experiencing. I did not know why my body and mind reacted to certain people and different situations like it did. All I knew was that it did not feel right. I did not feel safe. I did not feel good enough.

I was about 7 years old when I started therapy. I went off and on throughout the years. When I was a teenager, I started to understand more of the therapeutic process. I learned that my best attempts at trying to avoid feeling so out of control were by way of an eating disorder, codependency and major depression. There were plenty of other attempts at avoidance and control seeking, but those were the main ones. When I began digging into the traumas of my earlier years. fear told me that if I look at these memories, I will not be able to bear it. That was not true – I went through it all, little by little, and surely, the fear shrunk, little by little. I came to understand that my 5, 7, 13 and 18 year old selves were not always close to me. They felt far away and I was afraid of them. Of course, when I didn’t learn safety growing up; I couldn’t be that for myself. I turned against myself in many ways. I did not believe I was good enough, so my actions matched.

Through therapy, I chose to reconnect with them, to help them to have a corrective experience of safety and learn healthy ways to cope. I rewrote many of the core beliefs that stunted me. I now know I am good enough. I am safe. I am so much more powerful than I ever thought possible. Learning to befriend my emotions – a human experience – and reconnecting with my amazing 5, 7, 13 and 18 year old selves – was the work I needed.

That was the foundation for why I chose to become a therapist. I want others to know that they do not have to be hindered by the fear of living. We all get to start over, any day and at any time. Healing is available to everyone.

I completed graduate school in 2013, in Colorado. I moved out to Nashville shortly thereafter. I started working as a case manager in project housing and schools. I worked at a ministry that helped young girls and women heal from trafficking and other issues. I worked at Cumberland Heights, which is a great substance abuse treatment center in Nashville. Then, I took a leap of faith into starting my private practice, Psychobabble Therapy.

I had no idea what I was doing when it came to running my own business, but I have figured it out along the way, with a lot of help from others. From 2021 to 2025, my practice has grown to have 12 therapists, including myself. It is an amazing practice, because of the incredible clinicians and clients we have!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, I suppose that is subjective! I’d say most if not all issues were logistical. Nothing that was too hard to overcome and to learn a different way of moving through it.

A good friend of mine always says, “Everything is always working out for me.” I do my best to stand in that space.

As you know, we’re big fans of Psychobabble Therapy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Psychobabble Therapy is an outpatient group therapy practice. We are known for our creative way of viewing therapy. Psychobabble Therapy is a silly name, but it is serious work. It can be helpful to make light of therapy while still taking to heart that it takes bravery to be willing to address mental health and pain. Laughter is healing – anyone who can laugh can heal! It really is not just “psychobabble”. It’s a powerful and invaluable investment in oneself.

There is an array of issues we treat, to include trauma, attachment, anxiety, OCD, depression, process addictions, eating disorders, substance abuse, spirituality, grief/loss, self-worth, high-achieving/performing individuals, stages of life/adjustments, relationship issues, couples, individuals, group, all ages and genders.

Our skilled clinicians have incredible life and professional experiences. We utilize various techniques, specialties and trainings to cater to your care and work toward your goals. We are honored to get the opportunity to walk alongside you on your journey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The concept of luck means that what is meant for me will find me. I believe that being as good of a human as one can be – with the cracks and cuts and wounds and all – that everything happens as it is supposed to. Luck looks purposeful to me. It speaks to how I have lived and how my heart is postured toward life, business and others.
