Meet Keisha Brady of KB Smiles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisha Brady.

Hi Keisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into pediatric dentistry wasn’t traditional, but it’s one I’m proud of. I actually started my career as a science classroom teacher — I spent nearly 15 years in education, teaching and mentoring children in the Nashville Public school system. That experience taught me patience, communication, and how to meet each child where they are — lessons that I now use every single day in dentistry.

My love for dentistry started while in undergrad at TSU working for an oral surgery. Though my dental journey took a detour, teaching provided a mindset of serving families.

Over time, I realized that I wanted to make an even bigger impact on children’s overall well-being, and oral health felt like a natural extension of that. I went back to school at Meharry Medical College, where I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Master’s of Health Sciences, and a Master’s in Public Health (MSPH). Meharry’s focus on serving the underserved aligned perfectly with my own heart for community care.

I recently completed my pediatric dental residency at Meharry as well, and during that time, I deepened my passion for preventive care, oral health literacy, and research on health disparities. Now, as a board-qualified pediatric dentist and co-owner of KB Smiles — a family-centered practice that I built alongside my husband — I’m committed to serving families with compassion, education, and excellence.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My road to dentistry wasn’t quick or easy — it’s been a journey of faith, endurance, and growth. After undergrad, I started a post-bac program at Meharry with hopes of getting into dental school, but it didn’t happen right away. Almost twenty years passed before I finally got that acceptance letter.

In that time, life taught me a lot. I became a wife, a mother, a teacher, and a caretaker. I dealt with personal health challenges and the pain of losing family members. When I finally stepped into dental school, I carried all of that experience with me — along with the determination that I was exactly where I was meant to be.

There were moments when I wanted to give up — especially during boards — but my faith in God and my husband’s constant encouragement reminded me that delay isn’t denial. Every obstacle prepared me for the kind of pediatric dentist and woman of purpose I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Any big plans?
Looking ahead, the Bradys plan to expand KB Smiles by adding more operatories and team members, with a vision of building an umbrella brand that includes pediatric, special needs, and family dentistry — offering one location designed just for children and another focused on adult care. Their goal is to continue growing while staying true to their mission: helping every family smile brighter, inside and out.
