We recently had the chance to connect with Anna O’Connor and have shared our conversation below.
Anna, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I am fortunate to be able to finally work from home after years of the back and fourth to unfulfilling jobs, putting in more hours and accomplishing a lot more . The first 90 minutes of my day are preparing what I sell to photo or boxing up to ship what sold the night before, and answering messages from customers looking for specific things, etc.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Anna O’Connor and I sell vintage online through my business Black Eyed Bunny, located in Nashville, TN. I find interesting, beautiful and unique things that have lasted the test of time and have been cherished and hold memories to the previous owners.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My father taught me most about how I work and run my business. My father owned a car dealership in Columbia, TN. He worked 24/7. His customers became his friends and they counted on him for cars for themselves and their families. He would find exactly what his customers wanted, was honest and loved what he did which is why he was successful. People loved sharing their stories of buying cars from my father ,how he found exactly what they wanted, and they in many cases, years and years later, still owned. My father got up every morning looking forward to going to work and loving what he did and it made a very strong impression on me and how I run my business today. I appreciate each and every customer and treat them as I would want to be treated.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I wanted to give up numerous times with jobs I had before Black Eyed Bunny. I stayed with unfulfilling jobs and many, many, times wanted to give up. I used it to my advantage by pursuing my passion while employed and it paid off.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would say that I am always there for them and that I am a people pleaser. I want people to be happy and thrive and I try to do my part to support my friends and am thankful for them in my life.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think my customers would miss my photos. I love setting up what I sell to photo. My photos incorporate many different styles and colors and is a creative process. I see each photo process as a fun challenge to bring attention to a thing of beauty.
