Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Stern.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Started entertaining at 15 years old in hometown of Fairmont, WV.
Worked in Morgantown while at WVU, then moved to Pittsburgh and earned BS degree in Clinical Psycholgy, with minor in Statistics. Did solo act and played in several bands covering the tri-state area, performing original and cover tunes. Moved to Nashville 4/01/1993 to work on songwriting career.
Owned MECA (Mobile Electronics Competition Association) 1999-2021, highlighting high-performance car audio systems, overseeing 150+ events yearly. MECA was an international organization and travelled extensively to train and network with industry and judging staff.
Released Americana CD album “Steam Powered Stern” in 2007.
Currently working with The Bordertones band and released “The Lady In Black in early 2025. This is a popular song about Mrs. Willie McGavock, Nashville’s most famous ghost who haunts the Optyland Hotel and the Music Valey Drive area.
Works with Music For Seniors, a non-profit organization that provides live music for seniors in Assisted Living, Memory Care, and charity events.
Works for the Titans at Nissan Stadium as a Tour Guide and Fan Care Specialist.
And, works most nights downtown leading history and ghost tours as a lead guide for Ghost City Tours.
Active in Songwriter Community as board member of TSAI (TN Songwriter Association International) since 2012. Performs regularly around town with friends and the band.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a functioning songwriter is not easy.
