Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Lima.
Hi Morgan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a native Nashvillian, I have had the unique experience watching this city grow and change over the past 30 years. I am the youngest of four girls, and long before I became a mom I was blessed with five nieces and nephews to dote on. I feel that my current career was shaped by my experience in high school. We watched the movie Philladelphia in our sophomore health class, and that film planted the seed in my heart to pursue a career in nursing. Everything I did from that point on was focused on getting into nursing school. I worked hard throughout high school, volunteered at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and went on to nursing school in Evansville, Indiana. Though I loved my college experience, Nashville was calling me back home. In 2016 I accepted a job at Vanderbilt and I have been there ever since! Nashville has blessed me with so many things; I met my husband here, I have lifelong friendships that bloomed here, and now I get to serve as a nurse to my community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
An author I admire once told me that had he known the amount of challenges he would face on the path to publishing his first book, he never would have pursued it. There is value in naivity. I think this applies to most endeavors worth embarking on. This was true when I decided to pursue nursing school, and continues to prove its relevance. When I wanted to start a CPR business, I didn’t even know how to become certified as an instructor. I have been a nurse for nearly a decade, but I still had to go through the official steps to become certified to teach. I even reached out to another nurse who had walked this journey, but did not receive support. I spent a majority of free time during my maternity leave researching the process of how to become certified, consulting with a business attorney, watching training videos, and building my clientele. Over the course of a year, I went from having zero clue how to start a business to a fully formed LLC, a couple of clients, and my first investor.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hand to Heart CPR and First Aid Training, LLC?
Hand to Heart CPR & First AID Training, LLC is a business born out of my passion for teaching life-saving skills in a fun and relaxed environment. As a nursing instructor and preceptor I have had the privilege of seeing the light bulb go off once a student masters a concept or skill. Students learn best when the pressure of performance is removed from the equation. Fostering a safe environment to practice new skills builds confidence in your abilities.
I became a mom early spring of 2024 to my beautiful baby boy. He is the center of my world. Becoming a new mom meant I sought out all the new mom groups- from birthing classes to postpartum playdates. A recurring question I found my fellow comrades asking was “Do you know where I can take a CPR class?” The most common answer is “at the hospital where you are going to give birth” or “through a CPR agency.” But this means taking time out of their busy schedule to sit in a classroom full of strangers under fluorescent lights for an entire day.
Many parents can’t take time out of the work day or leave their newborns to go take a CPR class. That’s why Hand to Heart CPR sends a registered nurse who has been certified by the American Heart Association as an Instructor to teach these parents in the convenience of their own home. We will remain with the clients as long as they feel the need to practice with the manikins until they are comfortable and confident.
In addition to private in home classes, I also host communtiy events. My Instagram and website are the best ways to stay up to date about upcoming events. And of course, I provide CPR and First aid certifications to professionals.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love connecting with other business owners and moms over social media and in person. You may see me out and about at events like Mom Walks or Flourish Expo, or on social media making short videos about child safety. Instagram has proven most instrumental in connecting with individuals interested in my services. I also have monthly recurring workshops at my classroom space in Green Hills. These can be booked through my website. Business owners interested in hosting a class for their clients or their staff can reach out via email.
