Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Rogers.
Hi Josh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Nashville, TN in 2011 right after graduating college in Texas from West Texas A&M University. I started substitute teaching in the greater Nashville area and then toured heavily on the road with bands from 2012-2017. I officially started our design agency, Wizardly, LLC in 2017 with my business partner, Meg Schlabs in 2017. We started as a 2 person team, and now have scaled up to a team of full-time and part-time employees of 6-9. We provide brand, design, and website services for mostly B2B, tech, and biotech companies, but still work with smaller “mom and pop” businsses whenever we can.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been incredibly rewarding to run this business. With anything that is worth risking your time, investment, and resources, there will always be times of difficulty or questions. But my business partner and I have made it a priority to give ourselves the space to focus on our families, self-care, and other side projects so that we always keep our business in perspective. One of the hardest things about running a company with a 50/50 partnership is coming to agreement on big decisions and owning your differences. The more you try to “pretend” to be something you’re not, it always backfires. Own who you are and find a business partner that respects you and you can overcome almost any adversity.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Wizardly started as a design agency with a simple idea: great design shouldn’t be reserved for massive teams with endless resources. We are based in Nashville, TN + Charleston, SC. We are relational, resilient, problem-solving people, and our senior team reflects those values.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck for me primarily has come in the form of the other business owners and acquaintances that directly or indirectly took the time to offer insights and wisdom to me on my journey. I did not go to school for business, so I have had to work at understanding what a successful business does and does not look like. Talk to people who are smarter and more experience than you are and you won’t need luck!
