Hi Kiantae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a young man from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I’ve been living in Tennessee for about ten years now. I attended school at MTSU when I first came here, earned my CDL, and even opened a moving company before becoming part-owner of a trucking company. I worked a lot of jobs over the years, including eight years in the bar industry.
I used the money I earned to build a new life in Nashville after feeling it was time to leave Murfreesboro. Once I gained enough knowledge and experience from my previous businesses, I used my failures as lessons that helped me grow and eventually build a successful barbershop.
For the past three years, I’ve been thriving in the barber industry. Along the way, I’ve had great teachers, friends, and business owners who believed in me, gave me opportunities to work under them, and taught me valuable lessons about entrepreneurship and life. Every step—every setback and every win—helped shape Cut Therapy Barbershop in Nashville.
I thank God for giving me the strength, opportunity, and courage to keep pushing forward and build the business I have today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth. I’ve had multiple cars totaled. I’ve had moments where I questioned whether starting over was the right move. There were times I didn’t know where the next dollar was coming from and bills were due. I had days when it felt like a cloud was over me and I didn’t even want to get up because it felt like I was going in circles.
One thing about being an entrepreneur is that it always comes with ups and downs. It’s never steady—there are seasons of excitement and seasons of challenge. But entrepreneurship also brings peace, because you become the source of your own abundance. It forces you to grow mentally and spiritually, to bet on yourself, and to truly understand who you are.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Cut Therapy is more than a barbershop. We specialize in all hair types and also offer shaves, facials, shampoos, beard oils, and other grooming products. But beyond the services, Cut Therapy is a place where anyone can sit down, have a real conversation, talk about life, gain insight, relax, and leave looking and feeling better than they came in.
I built Cut Therapy to be a place of culture—where any race, background, or hair type is welcomed and respected. A place where people can connect, feel heard, and never feel judged. I wanted to create a brand built on peace, excellence, and manhood.
My goal is to help people who are dealing with anxiety, depression, anger, stress, or anything life throws at them. I believe a haircut is more than just a service—it’s therapy. One haircut at a time, one conversation at a time, we help set people free mentally and emotionally, no matter who they are or where they come from.
In the barber industry, shops are often unintentionally segregated—Black shops, white shops, Hispanic shops, etc. But at Cut Therapy, I’ve had conversations with people from all over the world. Different cultures, different beliefs, different stories—and it’s been amazing. I truly wish every barbershop and every barber could experience this level of connection.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is to believe in yourself and take the step, even when you can’t see the whole path. Life is like driving at night—you can only see as far as your headlights, but you keep going because you trust the road is still there. That’s how I approach my journey. I was once a kid who couldn’t even say his ABCs, and now it’s second nature. I used to be afraid to take tests in fourth grade, but I overcame that too. Every level of life has challenges, but as long as I keep my head forward, take consistent steps, gain knowledge, and learn from my mistakes, I’ll continue to grow. Nothing is impossible with time, discipline, and faith.
