Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalton Ponchillia.
Hi Dalton, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a knack for numbers and finance. My dad was in the mortgage industry years ago and planted a small seed that grew into a passion of my own. I’ve always loved real estate and the idea of building something from the ground up, so getting in the mortgage industry where I could start my own business felt like the perfect path. Now, I get to work alongside my dad every day as he’s come back into the industry—something that’s both rewarding and motivating. Being a Nashville local has also played a huge role in my growth, allowing me to connect with my referral partners and clients. It has been crazy to see the year over year growth in my business, even in what people are calling some of the “hardest times” in the mortgage industry. It has been a lot of work and sacrifice to get here, but it has been so rewarding to see all the people that I have been able to help over the last few years!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been an easy path. I learned very fast that it was hard to build your own business from scratch and that it would take time. The first year was very slow and I focused on really learning the business. After the first year, rates shot through the roof to decade high rates which caused no one to be doing a refinance and it slowed down the buyer market. Not only is it hard to build a new business, but it is even harder to build one in what they are calling “one of the hardest markets in the mortgage industry”. I stayed positive and focused my time on referral partners and becoming the best lender I could be. I also faced the difficulty of making a move in companies, because the company that is behind you is also very important. I had to learn that the hard way, but I now know what I am looking for in a company.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a mortgage lender.
I specialize in all residential lending. Anyone looking to buy a 1-4 unit residential home; if that be their primary home, second home, or investment property. I do a lot of my business on the back end financing of new construction homes and also deal with a lot of real estate investors. I am most proud when I get a buyer that has been told they can’t buy a home right now, but after looking at their situation, I am able to approve them. There are many times people get told no, when they should not have been, and it is always amazing helping those people turn a dream into a reality! I think what sets me apart from others is my care for the clients I am working with. This is not just a job for me, but a chance to really take care of the people that I work with. I am always looking at as many ways as possible to get my clients into the best possible situation. I will even send my clients somewhere else, if I know there is a better product for their specific situation that I can’t offer them.
What matters most to you? Why?
My family is most important. When it comes to work, my clients and referral partners. I put clients first because they are the ones that are truly needing the advice and guidance. They are the ones making big financial decisions and I take great pride in making sure they get the best guidance possible. Referral partners next, because this is their livelihood as well. I want to make sure their deals are getting to the closing tables on time. I want to make sure their clients are having the best possible experience because that falls back them as well.
