Today we’d like to introduce you to Brynna Hower & Emma Frances.
Hi Brynna Hower & Emma Frances, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Honeywell unknowingly began when we first met in college. Emma had a scene recreation assignment for a film class and needed an actress to play Jenna Ortega’s character in Scream 6. We were really surprised when we uploaded the project to YouTube and got over 65,000 views! This was the first project we worked on together and had no idea that years later we would reconnect in Nashville and begin a film production company together.
We ended up living close to each other so morning coffees, walks after work, and dinners together became part of our routines. We kept meeting up every night for about a month straight, just brainstorming various creative projects and future film ideas. Until one day we realized we should stop saying ‘when’ and just do it now. Emma had a script that was almost complete, so we created a company name, set up social media accounts, and began introducing ourselves to the world as ‘Honeywell Films’.
We are now in post-production of our very first narrative short film, “Clover”, and distributed our first film “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” on October 17th on our YouTube channel. We are also working on some paid contract projects that we are very excited to share in the future!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any creative field there are bound to be learning curves and trust us, we have definitely had plenty of those moments. However, we’ve frequently found ourselves in awe of how easily a lot of this came together. We’ve both separately dreamed about creating a production company for so long, so our vision has been strong from the beginning. We’ve been shocked by and thankful for the outpouring of support since this began. People who have known us our entire lives to strangers who found us on the internet, have all reached out to express their support and encouragement. That’s become a driving motivator for us.
While the creative and personal sides of things have really worked out for us so far, being first time business owners has definitely thrown us for a loop a few times. Setting up a LLC, working with trademarks and branding – the business side is not either of our strong suits but it’s nice that we have each other to lean on as we learn. Since wrapping our first film back in August, we’ve been able to focus more time on how to best protect our business and be better prepared for the next project.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While our primary focus is on narrative films, we also have plans to produce other projects like music videos and documentaries. We really love being on set and collaborating with other local filmmakers, so we want learn as much as possible from each project. Although we are still new, we are most proud of our commitment to telling a good story and creating a trusting environment on set.
What sets us apart from other production companies is that we are still young adults who are actively chasing our dreams in front of the world online. We are working every day to build a network- a family of filmmakers who are in pursuit of the same dreams. We work our 9-5s and then pursue our passions 5-9. We want to bring everyone along with us and celebrate our successes together as we grow.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people know us just as filmmakers, but we actually both started out as actors! We both grew up acting in plays and musicals in school and have both had on-screen experience as actors in our adulthood. We love every part of what it means to make a movie. We think that’s what also sets us apart from other companies- our joint experience on both sides of the camera.
