Conversations with Lexi Stark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Stark.

Lexi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hey y’all! My name is Lexi (Peto) Stark. Originally I’m from a small town called Warrenton, VA. I grew up in a musical household from day one. My dad taught me to play guitar as early as age six, and my mom was always writing poetry while listening to vast array of musical stylings across every genre imaginable. Through combining my parents creative passions, I began writing songs as early as age eleven.

At age 14 I lost my mom to death by suicide. I had written a song for her that I sang as her eulogy called, “Where I Belong.” With the support of my dad and stepdad, I began recording this song as well as a full album of original works in Nashville. This required traveling back and forth from touring the DC-Metro area with my band (under my maiden name, Lexi Peto), and living the life of a teenager in high school back in Warrenton. It wasn’t long after that I was able to move to Nashville with my stepdad in pursuit of furthering my musical career, all with the support of my Dad.

In 2021 I graduated from Belmont University where I studied songwriting, music business, and christian theology/ministry. Since graduation, I have served on staff as a children’s minister at various churches within the greater Nashville area.

In 2023 I married the love of my life Jared Stark. I love Jared because of who he is. He encourages, equips, and empowers me to pursue all of my dreams especially my musical gifting and my love for God.

In August of 2025 I experienced a life-threatening health crisis. By the grace of God I am doing much better, but it took a lot of prayer and discernment to decide where I wanted to go with my career. With the support of my husband, our church, and our family we decided that it was best for me to pursue my music full time.

Today I aspire to encourage and inspire others through pursuing my ministry of music in all its various forms and fashions, i.e songwriting, artistry, teaching lessons, and more. Primarily my focus is being a Nashville-based singer-songwriter.

Stylistically my music combines country/pop/and christian themes with heartfelt, emotional, and raw lyrics. I love writing and performing for my own projects as well as for other artist projects.

My upcoming single will be a re-release of the song I wrote for my mom in 2014 called, “Where I Belong.” It will be released on my birthday this year November 15th, in her honor as well as in support of mental health awareness.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road- but extremely humbling. Losing my mom was one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through and probably will always be a challenge as I grow older. The health crisis I recently experienced was also extremely difficult. But despite all of the hardships I have faced on my journey thus far- I know that my Jesus is at the center of my life. I believe that everyone is called to a higher purpose. For me- I believe my purpose requires leaning into my gifts of music. I have always ran to my music in times of distress, and it has always comforted me and those around me. I am a very deep and passionate person when it comes to my music and those I care for. I hope and pray that my music can provide healing and a sense of being deeply known, loved, and understood for those who choose to listen to it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Nashville-based singer/songwriter. I love doing my own artist projects and I also love writing for other artists projects. I am most proud of the work that makes positive impacts on the lives of others.

The very first song I recorded in Nashville that I wrote for my mom, “Where I Belong,” that I am re-releasing this November is one of my most powerful songs. When I originally released it in 2014 I watched as people grieved the loss of my mom and others they cared for. I can even remember singing this song for a friend at her grandmothers funeral. For me, that is what music is all about- reaching people who feel like there is no hope and bringing light into their lives.

I believe what sets me apart from other artists and writers is that I am not afraid to be 1000% honest in my music and in my life in general. I want to be raw, real, and emotional above all else- because at the end of the day I just want to be true to who I am in Christ. Who I believe, He has made me to be.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Authenticity is most important to my success. Just being true to who I am, is what has gotten me this far. I wouldn’t have the life I have now if I was afraid to come out of the depths of despair and the darkest places in my life, mind, and spirit and step into who God has called me to be- which is ultimately “brave, strong, known, and loved.”

When I was a child I dreamed of moving to Nashville. Even though I didn’t grow up in a faith-focused home I can remember asking God as early as age 6 to move me to Nashville so I could write, record, and sing music. And here I am today- you never know where your prayers will lead you.

Ultimately- I thrive when I can fully lean into my gifts in music and I feel that this is all apart of a greater purpose for my life and the lives of those who I love and care for as well. I am so grateful and appreciative for every step of this journey and I know I have so much more to learn. I’m excited for what comes next.
