Inspiring Conversations with Elizabeth Smith of The Liz Effect

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Smith.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, I knew I wanted to do something that helped people feel beautiful again. Hair means so much to us — it’s part of our confidence, our identity, and our story. But when you don’t have the choice to keep it, you realize something even more important: hair doesn’t define you — your heart does.

I’ve always had a passion for hair, but becoming a single mother at 19 meant I had to find a path that would provide stability for my little family. Three years later, I met my husband, and together we raised our children. Once all of our kids started school, I finally took the leap toward my dream.

That’s when The Liz Effect Head Spa was born — a space built from love, resilience, and the desire to help others feel confident and cared for. I wanted to create an environment where anyone could feel comfortable in their own skin, no matter what they’re facing. Whether it’s hair loss, scalp challenges, or simply not feeling like themselves, I wanted a space that could help people reconnect with their confidence.

I’m passionate about teaching my clients not just about their scalp and hair health, but also how to maintain and style their hair so they feel confident every single day — not just when they leave the salon. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful, empowered, and at peace with themselves, and that’s exactly what The Liz Effect is all about. 💕

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey definitely hasn’t been easy. Not being from the Clarksville area, I had to start completely from scratch — learning how to grow my clientele and build genuine connections in a new community. On top of that, I had to figure out how to become my own content creator, learning how to share my work and my story in a way that truly reflected my heart behind The Liz Effect.

But every challenge has taught me something valuable — patience, resilience, and the importance of believing in yourself even when things feel uncertain. Watching my business grow and seeing the impact it’s had on my clients makes every step of the journey worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Liz Effect?
The Liz Effect Head Spa is all about helping people feel confident and cared for from the inside out. I specialize in customized scalp and hair treatments that focus on overall scalp health, relaxation, and education. My goal is to create a one-of-a-kind experience that goes beyond a typical salon visit — one where each guest leaves feeling refreshed, informed, and confident in their hair and scalp.

What sets me apart is the personalized approach I take with every client. I don’t just perform a service — I take the time to educate my guests about their specific scalp and hair needs, products that will support them, and simple ways to style and care for their hair at home. It’s about helping people understand why their scalp or hair feels the way it does, and giving them the tools to feel their best long after their appointment ends.

The Liz Effect isn’t just for women — it’s for anyone struggling with hair or scalp challenges, from dryness and buildup to hair loss or sensitivity. I wanted to create a comfortable, judgment-free space where people can relax, unwind, and feel seen.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the authenticity and trust I’ve built with my clients. My business was born from a place of compassion and personal experience, and I’ve stayed true to that heart every step of the way. I want readers to know that The Liz Effect isn’t just about great hair — it’s about healing, confidence, and self-care.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Honestly, my biggest inspiration comes from people within the profession — the educators and mentors who believed in me and encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone. Their support and knowledge have pushed me to grow, not just as a stylist and head spa owner, but as a person.
