Nine years ago, Emily took a bold leap of faith and opened Roots Salon in Cookeville, TN. Coming to a town where she didn’t know a single person, armed only with determination and some old salon furniture from her previous boss, she set out to create more than just a salon—she built a community. Over the years, Roots has become a space where stylists are encouraged to grow into their full potential and guests are welcomed into a safe, authentic environment where they can truly be seen. As an Aveda Salon, Roots continues to raise the bar in beauty, care, and connection—making a genuine difference in the lives of both its team and the Cookeville community. Without God, none of this would have been possible
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t been without its struggles—learning to meet people where they are, extending grace, and taking time to regroup have all been essential parts of the process. Through the ups and downs, Emily and the Roots team have continued to grow with the waves of the economy and the ever-changing world around them. One of the greatest challenges and blessings has been finding and building a positive group of people who truly want to support, uplift, and grow with one another—creating the strong, faith-filled community that Roots Salon is known for today.
