Daily Inspiration: Meet Danielle Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Taylor.

Hi Danielle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Brian and I have been in the Taylor Street building for a few years. I started attending and sharing art as a beginner watercolor artist in 2018 and from there eventually had my own art studio and moved around the building in a few different spots.

In 2018 I was in a car crash where I was hit head on by a man who was on a lot of drugs. I had a pretty serious concussion that altered my short term memory and provided some wicked headaches. During my recovery I discovered watercolor and painting. It became my therapy and I would spend any time I wasn’t working painting in a coffee shop listening to books.

Brian is this amazing writer and works as a ghost writer and he helps people self publish as well. Honestly if it’s in print or an ebook, he knows how to help. I am always fascinated watching him work.
He also creates these imaginative dioramas that run the line from literary worlds to pop culture references. I love getting to watch new pieces take shape piece by piece.

In early spring of this year there was a space available at 100 Taylor Street that I thought would be perfect for a micro bookshop in the Germantown community. I love words and the stories they tell and thought a micro bookshop where we could share art and stories would be perfect.

Brian, being the supportive and encouraging partner he is, helped me achieve my lifelong dream of opening a bookshop where I could paint, drink coffee, and talk about books with our community. I will always chose to be on his team.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a small shop in an ever evolving city. We talk often about how to rise above the Nashville noise. There are so many amazing opportunities and events in this city, how do we help people find us and create a community we can pour into?

I think we are doing it slowly and steadily. We host monthly book clubs, open painting hours, and regular events.

We also aren’t a traditional bookstore. While we are happy and love to order books for people, rarely will we have a shelf of this weeks releases. We focus on a little bit of something new for every reader. Often only restocking the same book a handful of times before picking new reads. I want our visitors to always see something new.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Writer and dioramaist
Watercolor Painter and Reader

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Retail is tricky during any time. Art is also a weird bird. But we keep steady and we keep showing up.

We also love highlighting our local authors and creatives.
