Daily Inspiration: Meet Ciera Farley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciera Farley.

Hi Ciera, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As the intern back in 2016, I started my career unpaid and at the bottom of the totem pole. I’ve worked very hard by doing everything the designers asked of me. I took the time to learn our products, our fabrics, and how to read the price guides. Through all this work, I was promoted from one title to the next. Eventually becoming the senior designer right next to the owner. Together, worked seamlessly for many years. Other designers came and went, but I was always by her side. As years went by, the word “retirement” kept making its way into our conversations. Not wanting to go somewhere else and start anew, I decided to bet on myself and my knowledge of the Decorating Den System and bought her franchise. Now, I am on a journey of finding out who exactly I am as a new owner and learning what else I have to offer to my existing and new clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was always told anything worth having does not come easy and over the last nine years I’ve experienced this greatly. Some obstacles are client related. You know, having a difficult client or not pricing the right item or enough for a certain project. All designers have been through those circumstances, but there are other obstacles that happen personally. Creative blocks happen, especially when you have no inspiration for a new design or even more personally when you want more out of life than what you feel you are getting. That was a hard one for me to get past. Its not about where you’re going, its the journey to get there.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
CB Home – Decorating Den Interiors is a full service design studio. We offer all furnishing, accessories, window treatments and more for the home. We don’t just help with selections of style, blending styles and space planning, we provide the furnishings we propose to every client making us “the furniture store that comes to your door.” We hold all appointments in the home to make the right selections. We offer complimentary first appointments for every initial client, which is not offered from many designers.
I am most proud of the diversity we offer. We are not just one style, we are every style.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
The creative, quiet, stand alone kid is what I was growing up. I am a middle child so I learned to entertain myself by myself at a young age. I’ve also had a motherly instinct as a child who helped my little brother get ready for school and catch the bus. I’ve never been afraid to do the things I’ve wanted to do. I was always getting myself into programs and learning things that my parents weren’t aware of until after I’ve joined. I took a lot of interest and pride in describing myself through clothing and fashion. I’ve also been a ballet and jazz dancer for four years. I’ve played violin for about 7 years and took that lesson to teach myself the keyboard.
I am the quiet observer, even to this day. I like to listen to learn people and their interest but I can be very outgoing.

Pricing:

Pricing varies from project to size to the clients aesthetic tastes. I like to talk about what the client has in mind for a budget first, then we figure out what all we can do with the desired budget. If it is not realistic for what the client wants, I try to figure ways to phase the design to get the most impact without impacting the budget too much.
