Inspiring Conversations with Jessica Mansell of Anomaly Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Mansell.

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I would attribute the start of my mental health career to my training to become a certified yoga teacher in 2014—albeit, I didn’t realize that until nearly six years later. At the time, I leaned into yoga as a vehicle for self-discovery, which contributed to many of the decisions I’ve made throughout the last decade. The choice to become a mental health therapist was really equal parts luck and a desire to build a life surrounded by meaningful relationships.

Anomaly Therapy was born out of a deep belief in the value and celebration of individuation, long before the practice itself was established in 2021. The goal continues to be for Anomaly to foster, empower, and accentuate—both internally and externally—the wonderful and brave versions of ourselves. We do this through a traditional therapy model and through systems work with local organizations.

Anomaly now has a small team of staff clinicians and interns who align with our culture, mission, values, and goals. And while the work behind the scenes is focused on creating meaningful impact outside of the individual therapeutic relationship, our heart lives with the clients we have worked with, work with, and hope to meet in the future.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think any honest business owner can admit to struggles along the way—both those that are predictable and those that catch you off guard. Admittedly, however, the challenges I’ve been met with have illuminated my weaknesses and taught me humility. Anomaly will celebrate its fifth year in early 2026, and I’ve finally learned the value of delegation and hiring help for my blind spots.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Anomaly Therapy?
Anomaly Therapy is a private mental health practice located in midtown Nashville. We offer individual and couples therapy, workplace wellness initiatives, and affordable care through low-fee therapy options. We primarily serve adults (18+) throughout the lifespan and treat all presenting concerns, struggles, and diagnoses. Every inquiring client is offered a free phone consultation, where we take the time to match their presenting concerns and expressed needs with the therapists available on our team. The physical space where therapy takes place is thoughtfully curated to help ease the nervous system and elicit feelings of connectedness and curiosity.

We currently have a staff of three therapists and one intern. We are actively seeking our fourth team member and eagerly expanding our internship program to provide more affordable and accessible care to our community. I am so proud of who Anomaly Therapy is, and I feel deeply connected to the goals we have set and look to achieve. To learn more about our team and what we offer, please visit www.anomalytherapy.com

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The two qualities that came to mind are that I am intrinsically motivated and incredibly persistent. My own goals drive my motivation and determine my satisfaction, and I’m acutely aware of how my efforts will either progress my career or hinder it. It can be a double-edged sword, however. Most of the time, this means I’m never fully satisfied and a job never actually feels complete. While I love these parts of myself, I’ve also had to learn how to set boundaries around my work time in order to create some semblance of balance—although it’s not uncommon for me to work a bit every day. What’s the saying? You never work a day in your life if you love what you do?
